Model 66 original stocks

Well, I'm just too dumb to decode what's happening here.

Would these Rubber grips have been original on this older 66?

I have a 4" Model 66 from 1973 that had the wood S&W magna grips on it so I doubt the rubber grips were original. Others may weigh in with more expertise than I have.

My 2 1/2" 66-1 that I bought new in 78 came with magnas but it now wears just what you have on yours.

In this instance, R probably means "Round" (butt), and at that time the only stock type from the factory would have been walnut Magnas.

Your Model 66 is from 1977, so the correct stocks would be round butt K frame Magna with no diamond at the screw location.

R on the label means "round."

As far as I know, S&W never shipped Pachmayr stocks on any revolvers. When the company did go to rubber (long after 1977), it used Hogue or Uncle Mike.

The 2 1/2" 66-4 shipped with Uncle Mike's rubber grips.

Before the dash 4 the grips were wood magna style service grips.
