I have a friend wanting to sell me a model 669 that he said he had shot about 2 or 3 clips through and he said that it didn't feed right and he is wanting $300.00 for it. I was wondering if that was a good deal and what the problem may be on the feeding I don't know anything about auto's and the gun looks like new.

Not feeding properly could be many things; magazine, ammo, grip, or not properly cleaned/lubed.

Your friend only shot a couple magazines through it. But they haven't been made in over 20 years. Is he the original owner and knows how it has been maintained or did he buy it used and has had problems ever since he picked it up?

I think $300 dollars for any 2nd or 3rd gen S&W pistol is a fair to good price.

He bought it new and said that since he didn't like it and the trouble he had with the feeding he just put it back and never shot it anymore and was wanting to get rid of it.

I would offer up $250 cash. If he wants to get rid of it he may just jump on it.

If I am correct, the last year made was 1988.
So your friend buys it new, in 1988, and shoots 2-3 "clips"
in the following 20 years.
Then decides its a jammer and he doesn't want it.
I would question his story.

Me, I'd offer $250 if he was just a buddy. If he's the type of friend I'd share my last beer with (assuming I still drank), I'd bite the bullet and go the whole $300. A good friend is worth more than the extra 1/2 C note.

He is an older man in his 70's and he is very honest. What would the 669 be worth if it fires other ammunition ok. He talked about it not feeding right and I thought I would try it with different ammunition

It probably just needs a proper cleaning and lubrication, and some breaking in.

If the 669 looks like new, then the current owner is probably telling the truth. $300 is a good price for a 669 in like new condition and I suspect there is nothing wrong with it. And if there is you can always send it to S&W for repairs, but I think some breaking in with produce a very reliable piece.

Go for it.

Buy It!!!!!
A few months ago I bought a gently used (less than 50 rounds) with six 12 round mags for $250....I'm very happy with it and the deal that I got.

I agree! Then learn how to properly field strip, clean and lubricate it. I have one that has over 5000 rounds downrange without failure of any kind and that includes some iffy reloads given to me over the years.

I would say it is a good buy. The feeding issue sounds like an easy fix, and the 669 is a great carry gun too.

I bought the gun yesterday now I have to find out how to break it down and clean it good and then try it out.

669

I bought mine over 30 years ago,and is my main CCW,it has scratches dints, dings and it works just fine. The main thing is to clean it on a regular basis. With a daily carry weapon you won't beleive me in how dirty it gets in a small amount of time.So keep it clean and lubed and no worries.

I think you did great on the 669. One of my favorites. Here is a link to breakdown instructions: http://stevespages.com/pdf/s&w_469.pdf

A thorough cleaning will help with some Remoil. Take the magazine apart and check for any burrs or rubs and lube it lightly with Remoil also. Use 9mm ball ammo, mine works great with Winchester white box from Wal-Mart.

Let us all know how it turns out.
