I am thinking of buying a SS 686 with a 3" barrel. I did a search for sights but almost nothing came up. A mention of "nighthawk rear sights" was found but when I did a search for them specifically nothing came up?

So what sights do you recommend for converting a 686 into a CCW friendly package? And where to buy them?

Thanks guys.

Meprolight night sight. you can buy them at brownells. They look like this

So those sights would be decent for CCW? They still look sharp edged?

Having carried S&W revolvers with factory adustable sights for many years, I think I know what you are getting at. The corners of the rear sight are quite sharp.

I recommend selecting a holster that provides coverage around the rear sight area. This will protect your body and your clothing from catching and snagging on the rear sight.

During my law enforcement career I also had panels of light canvas sewn into the linings of my suit coats and sports jackets. This keeps the linings from becoming torn by contact with the revolver, and also significantly reduces "printing" of the holstered handgun through the outer garment.

Finally, I have known several coppers through the years that filed the rear sight corners to a rounded contour. This is an extreme fix (might have a negative effect on resale value) but it makes sense for those having the concerns you are dealing with.

Yeah thats exactly what I am concerned about. You would think there is a company out there that makes CCW friendly sights for revolvers?

The 686 3 inch has the standard S&W micrometer click adjustable rear. That works just fine. I would leave them as is. The US Secret Service, FBI and others have done just fine carrying S&W's adjustable sights concealed. If you don't want adjustable sights, then get a fixed sight model, such as the Model 10, 13 or 581 or, if you want stainless, the Model 64, 65, 619 or 681.

You might look at Cylinder and Slide's extreme duty fixed sight. I had a set on a 629 carry comp. It was dead on and perfect for me and CCW. Since the 629 is gone and I forgot to remove them I now need another set for my new one
S&W Sight

Thanks guys, I think I have enough info now to do some shopping. I will take some time and look at the models Shawn M. mentioned especially in SS. I have a model 65 already but was looking to get a K frame with the shrouded full length extractor...what ever model that # that may be.
