Model 69 Combat Magnum question

My 2.75 is almost flawless. It has 2 tiny, tiny little pock marks next to each other, towards the front of the cylinder. And that’s it. However, I bought mine used, so the previous owner may have done that.

The crown and forcing cone look great. Ejection is perfect. Timing is good. SA pull is less than 3 pounds. I always have trouble measuring DA. I think mine is a bit less than 9 pounds. Even tho min was used, it wasn’t fired much at all. The action has gotten much smoother with a lot of dry firing.

I’m pretty pleased with offhand accuracy. My small “Iron Man” steel target takes quite a beating out to 50 yards.

I think it’s a handsome revolver. My Opinion: Buy.

My advice when considering the purchase of any firearm, be it used or new: Give it a thorough visual inspection, look for defects in fit, finish, and workmanship. Also give it a function test, make sure everything is functioning correctly. Every firearm is a rule unto itself, that includes accuracy, velocity attainable with different ammo, and build quality.

I bought a used 4.25 inch barreled model 69.

It may be the finest revolver I own. It's that good. Beautiful double action and single action.

I added the X Frame Hogues and she handles magnum loads very well. I shoot it as accurately as some of my older target Smiths.

Pure magic for me!

I got rid of my 2.75” model 69 and got a 4” 629 to mirror my 329PD and shoot heavy loads from. The model 69 had a MUCH better trigger than the new 629. It’s not even close.

At some point, I’ll pick up a used 4” 69, it’s just a really nice gun.

I bought a 69 with a 4.25 inch barrel right after they came out and my only complaint was the gun shot high with heavy bullets even though the rear sight was bottomed out. From what I have read that was corrected in later production.

I no longer have it since I decided a 357 was all I needed and 38/357 ammo is much less expensive than anything 44. While I am happy with the 686+ that replaced the 69 I agree with the other posters that the 69 was a better gun, mostly because of the outstanding DA trigger pull. The DA on my 686 is smooth but the weight varies some through out the pull. On the 69 it was not only smooth but very consistent. It was on the heavy side until I put in a lighter rebound spring but was otherwise the best DA trigger of any gun I have ever owned.

The 69 was very accurate too.

S&W introduced the 69 and latest model of the 66 at the same time. As much as like my 686 it might at some point get replaced or complemented by a 66 if they are as nice as the 69 I no longer own.

I bought a 4" when they first came out. Then sent it if to the S&W Performance Center for the street action job. It's the smoothest revolver I've ever owned, even besting a Davis PPC gun I had years ago.
