I have both and shoot both equally . Have holsters for both. Does anyone here carry either of the above and do you prefer one over the other.

I prefer the glock grip but not the shortness of either. So yes I prefer glock but if it's a 19
I've got one each. I change 'em out all the time. No preference.

I'm not a Glock fan at all. Notwithstanding that, I prefer any compact 3rd gen for carry (or something like a SIG P239) over a striker fired plastic gun for a variety of reasons.
For a sticker fired plastic gun though; I'd go with a Walther PPS, M&P compact , or Shield.

I go between a G26 and 3913 if that's close enough?
The Glock has less things poking me in the sides and is lighter weight. The G26 is easier to carry concealed for me. It is also faster out of concealment and to get rounds on target. Glock mags and parts are cheap and readily available. There are also tons of excellent Glock holsters on the market as well that simply leaver out the older smiths on their compatability charts like the excellent minimalist holsters like the raven vanguard II.
Both are reliable, serviceable, and accurate in excess of what a small concealed carry handgun requires. So there really is no bad choice.
It really comes down to what you have already, how you carry, and how your body is put together. Looks, asthetics, hammers,strikers, and even how you think it "feels" in your hand, or what other folks think about one brand or receiver material shouldn't factor at all. Function over form rules the day. To me, the Glock is simply the better gun, but the 6906 is no slouch. To clarify why the 3913 has a place in my rotation is simple.....thin grip. Millimeters make a huge difference in concealment in my carry profile, and the thin grip makes a huge difference. But the 6906 being essentially a double-stack 3913, I'd just just deal with the Glock.

I've carried a PC 6906 and 3913s for 20 and 25 years now ...... tried Glocks 19s and 26s three maybe 4 time.... prefer the Smiths;

I do not have a Glock and from being at the range with those that do the main reason is I like steel!

Although I am qualified with my 4013, the truth of the matter is I carry my Glock 19 the majority of the time. The 4013, as much as I like it is an out of production gun that I can't easily buy even simple spare parts for like springs and mags and mag baseplates in particular.
Yes, part are available and I do love my 3rd gens, but I just prefer to put the harder miles on my Glocks or 1911's.

She will make them for anyone - - - standard shirt sizes ( S-M-L-XL ) for $20.00 + shipping - - - if you need a larger size you need to measure and she will charge $10.00 more.
The tension on the elastic straps holds the weapon well for a class 1 holster - - - to show off I tightened the straps more than normal and did a couple of cartwheels and the firearm stayed right where it was supposed to. She will put a Velcro retention strap on if requested for better hold.

I owned a S&W 469 and a Glock 26 at the same time and alternated carrying them. I sold the 469 to my brother when I got my first S&W 908. The Glock was a bit lighter, and I live near Smyrna, GA so I can take the gun in for service if need be. The sights on the 469 were not replaceable, but it was a fine handgun. I later traded into a second 908, and traded that to my brother for the 469. I sold the 469 to the cameraman of one of Atlanta's hottest T.V. news reporters.

Here is how I see the stackup.
Glock Advantages
1) Easier to service as parts are readily available.
2) Easier to find a holster
3) Less weight
4) Simpler manual of arms as there is no external safety to use or manipulate
5) Gen 4 offers ability to tailor grip frame to hand size
6) More sight options due to Glock ubiquity.
7) The ability to use magazines from the Glock 17 and 19 pistols.
8) Every trigger pull is the same.
S&W Advantages
1) The hammer makes an ND less likely as it offers feedback during the holstering process, important for AIWB carry.
2) Heavier so easier to shoot well due to less perceived recoil.
3) Safety and magazine disconnect add some protection against a gun grab, especially with so few people today being accustomed to the 3rd Generation guns. Safety allows for safer holstering.
4) Can be purchased for less than the Glock.
5) The ability to change from TDA to DAO or to de-cock only.
6) More reliable than Glock, especially late Gen 3 and early Gen 4 9x19 guns.

To answer some points, the below.
1) I have broken a few parts on S&W 3rd Generation guns, including an extractor hook. While that is a fifteen minute job with a Glock 19 (changed more than a few), it is a trip to the factory or a real armorer for the 3rd Generation. I do agree with the backup philosophy, and I have duplicates of any pistol I carry. I rather do the work myself, but an extractor change on the S&W is much more involved.
2) There are fewer holster choices for the S&W guns due to the waning demand for them, especially new holster designs. Want a Sparks Nexus with the magnetic loop closures for the 3rd Generation? No can do, but there is an offering for the Glocks. An example of just fewer options due to many shooters going for something else.
3) I agree about the weight not being an issue with a good holster and belt, but as we age, a little less weight on the belt is a good thing for the back.
6) I really like the HD sights on a carry gun, but I can and do make do with the Novak. It is just nice to have choices. With the S&W guns, there are fewer of them. The slide design lends itself to choices due to the dovetail design, but fewer companies offer sights for the guns.

Much of the above is all about the market and popularity. Glock pistols, in a word, are popular. As a result, there are lots of choices for aftermarket parts and support for the guns. One can walk into most any gun store and find Glock pistols, magazines, sights, and holsters. Not so true for the S&W 3rd Gen guns. It does not make them bad pistols, but logistics are a big part of choosing a carry gun, and S&W does not want to sell more 3rd Generation pistols.
If one has all they need, the 3rd Generation guns are viable carry pistols. One may give up some options as the ability to easily mount a light or the ability to get a SIRT, but the guns will do the job. If one is starting from scratch, the 3rd Generation guns have been superseded in the marketplace.

Bought the SR9 and have no regrets.
Every bit as reliable as a Glock.
At least as accurate, if not more so.
Much better factory trigger pull.
And, the most important part, fits my hand correctly.
Do own 3rd Gens. Do like them a lot. Do plan on carrying the 6906, 5906, 5946, and 4566.
Heck, if i could get enough mags for my 52-1 (and mod them to hold 8 rounds) I'd carry it.

I do own and carry third generation S&W pistols. My number one concealed carry gun is my 3953.
This 1006 is my choice for hiking here in north Georgia. I left it ome this weekend and brought my Sig P226 .40 S&W with me, as I planned to work cutting and hauling limbs and brush.

I am no Glock fan, but, of the two choices listed by the OP, starting from scratch that would be my choice. Luckily for me, no need to start from scratch as I have owned a 3913NL since 1991. Since then, I have added a Novak 915, a 3906 for my daughter, 5906, and two 4046 pistols.
If I had to do it today, my choice would probably be the HK P30 and P2000SK. They may be polymer guns, but they are very, very good guns.

The 3913NL has been my primary concealed carry since they came out..... displacing a first year 3913 ( I added a 5906 hammer for open carry).......... after my PC 6906s the 915s are my favorite hi-cap Smiths.......wouldn't mind having a Novack

I don't own a G26, but I do have a 6906 and a G19. I have been carrying the 6906 for about a month to see how I like it. I've been carrying a G19 off and on for about 19 years. The G19 is my go to because the familiarity (I shoot Glocks in IDPA and 3-gun). That's not a knock on the 6906, I wish I had discovered 3rd gen auto's years ago.
As far as Gaston Glock, yeah, he's done some shady things, but I've bought plenty of Fords and Henry Ford was far from a saint. Just saying.
