I have a great old Smith pistol that I thought you guys would be able to give me some info on. It is a single shot .22 top break. It says "Model of 91" on top of the barrel and has S/N 37XX. I would like to know the year of manufacture and any history on the gun.
Thanks

TeddyBob, What you have is a 1st Model Single Shot (aka. Model of '91). They were manufactured from 1893 to 1905. They were mfg'd in the same serial number range as the .38 Single Action, 3rd Model and just over 28000 were mfg'd total. Exact quantities of each is unknown. You have an early serial number but S&W did not ship in serial number sequence so the only way to know is to request a letter from the factory. Mike

The information I found when I researched the Model of 1891 is that they are considered antiques. Helps to know when selling or shipping one as they don't require an FFL or C&R. The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson has some good information on this gun. Best Regards, Chef
