Swing the cylinder open. Then look into the yoke area by the pivot. You should see a number stamped M? Maybe have a dash number also.

What you have is a 2" Military & Police Airweight revolver. I am traveling and don't have my references but it should be a pre-1957 gun. It will not be model marked, But it is the model which became the Model 12 in 1957 when S&W assigned model numbers. Before that date they were referred to as "Named Models".

Swing out the cylinder and I see what looks like

MOD
1 2

Spaced just like that
Then on the bar holding the cylinder is marked
80933
A large 8
And a small 6 both random placed/stamped
Wish I knew how to attach a pic.
Hope this will help you help me.

You apparently have a model 12 but that C813 serial number should come from 1948 - 1951 which was before model numbers. Did you get that number off the bottom of the grip frame? Depending on what grips are on it you may have to take them off to see the number.

You know......
