Modified or Butchered?

I would consider them "Competition Improved" models. Serious competitive shooters then and now did and still do modify their guns to fit the special needs of their particular shooting sport. Have you seen many of the "Custom Shop" guns?
 
I can only hope my ribbed 38 S&W in transit exhibits the same quality workmanship.

ETA: Though it hasn't arrived I've been sold a pistola that is claimed to be a Pre-Model 10 38 S&W. It's also sporting a rib & I'm not seeing any evidence of a barrel pin. It would seem a slot has been cut in the front sight base and the half circle blade notched in a target style. I welcome any speculation.
