More bears

You need a dog with bears being around. I’ve hunted bears in vt since ‘73. They make noise when they don’t know your there. There very quiet even going in thick brush when they know your there.

No bear hunting season yet. I have a predator call I never used. I go by my ethics one on one hunting.

We had another bird feeder bear raid last night. Looks like it went in & out the same way as the last couple times in spring of a year and two ago, so probably the same bear.
Took the feeders down for a month this spring to avoid it this year. Surprisingly, it hit in the middle of summer last night. I thought we found the cure but guess I was wrong. They’re not just passing through after their winter nap.
I wanted to add that as soon as we let the dogs out this morning they both immediately hackled up with noses to the ground.
Time to load up the 12ga. rubber slugs.

"There are bears, bears, coming up the stairs
In the store, in the store..."

Especially when you don't take your bird feeders down, in which case the bears will kindly do it for you.

After the second time this guy turned up, I told him (from a safe distance as he waddled off) that if this goes on, I'd have to adopt him, which wouldn't likely go over well with my cat

This little fella avoided the stairs entirely, preferring the more direct route:

Although the feeder was right above his head, the little fella didn't manage to get it. The big guy, though, ended up standing on his hind legs from the grass below, hauling himself up on the rail with his front paws, and snagged it with his snout!

Amazingly, the feeder survived and will be put up again in the late fall.
