This was inspired by Faulkner. We have had small (17-20 lb) black dogs since '86 after our Samoyed died. These little black dogs were kept as ratters on barges and in the shops of Belgian from the early 1800's. They have gotten several mice in our basement over the years. They track down chipmunks that get into the garage and hide in the large mower. They even trapped a frog that got into the garage. Now they are just good companions who only ask to be loved.

We have two females, Lizzy and Sugar Bear (aka Bear). Bear was named in memory our first Schipperke, Cinder Bear. The pictures are Lizzy at 10 weeks. She's trying to get a bee. Next we have Lizzy at 4 years, she's now 10. The last picture is Bear at about eight weeks smelling the flowers. Bear is now 5 yeas old. Lizzy is 17 pounds and Bear is 20 pounds. They are double coated, so winter is fun and games for them.

When someone new visits, I can tell what type of person they are by how the dogs accept them. Some people don't cut it. They are excellent judges of character.

How I love my dogs.
