More Swiss shooting

Been busy shooting here in Switzerland, while the season is still nice. End of fall and winter is all about indoor shooting.

Saturday a few friends from our shooting club and I were invited to a shooting challenge organised by the shooting society of the Lausanne police corps (Lausanne being a city in Switzerland).

5 warm up shots (2&3) and then 4 X 5 shots in 5 minutes, 50, 40 and 30 seconds on the ISSF speed target at 25 meters for a total max of 200 points (warm up shots being used in case of a tie)

My weapon of choice in the ordnance division is my trusty Sig P210-1 in 7.65 mm parabellum (.30 Luger). Note the vintage ammo, still accurate.

Time to load up for the scoring shots

1st pass, ouch

2nd pass, better

3rd pass, agonisingly missing the 10

Last pass, finally a nice one

Total score of 181 (the secretary struggles with additions)

Yesterday I went to another nice shooting range for some rifle and pistol practice

300 meters open sights with a milsurp Sig 510-1 (StGw 90). EDIT 550-1, not 510-1

I am on lane 7, they closed one out of two lanes for social distancing / Covid

The contraption on the side is a brass deflector

A couple of 80/100

Then I fiddled with sight adjustment a bit

And finally turned in a decent score despite a 6 and a 7

Finally some 25 meters pistol practice next door

I've been struggling a bit with this pistol so I asked the gunsmith to improve the trigger a bit, he deburred some parts and it improved it quite a bit.

Right on Kurusu, the last set of pictures / targets show a rubber band, same principle (although I managed to shoot the rubber band twice yesterday).


And thanks, but I didn't shoot many competitions in my 30 + years career as a leisure shooter, and I regret it now, as the pressure of competition makes one a better shooter I believe, makes you focus more when there is a score and/or a position on the line.

Oh well not too late to learn and improve, most importantly I am enjoying myself tremendously

Understandable. Most of my shooting practice is self-defense oriented, so instead of changing targets I'll just tape a 8.5x11" sheet of paper over it, or a 3x5" adhesive mailing label if I want to shoot something smaller. For more precise work, sharpies make a good X on white paper.

We had a Swiss pistol match here last week. I qualified for both medals, shooting a Swiss & Wesson 686.

You should demand bonus points for shooting the rubber band. It's a very challenging target.

My buddy, who holds dual Swiss and USA citizenship, ha invited me to an event held by the local Swiss Rifle Club. The point of the event is to shoot some of the same rifles that Swiss citizens keep in their homes as part of their universal military service. I have no idea what rifles those are, but I guess I will find out. For ten bucks plus ammo, there is a shooting match at the end of the event. Should be fun.

The Swiss only used 3 (or 4) infantry rifles in the last 100 years +

K11 / K31 with GP 11 ammo (7.5 X 55)

Sig 510-1 (assault rifle 57) with GP 11 ammo (7.5 X 55)

Sig 550-1 (assault rifle 90) with GP 90 ammo (5.56 NATO)

All the two digits military numbers being the years of introduction

I am sure you'll have fun, especially if they shoot 300 meters open sights

Those are my weapons. Those ranges / club do not have weapons, everyone brings his own.

Commercial ranges have rentals.

That pair of older rifles was the first thing I saw, mounted on the wall opposite the front entrance door, at the first Swiss home I entered.
My friend the homeowner was a widow, and she had prominently mounted her late husband's rifles because he had been so proud of his military service.

I have a SIG P210-6. Very nice gun; my wife loves it even for than me, but it has one problem, the rear tang is much too short and I get severe hammer bite. There is a solution; a tang extension is made the the P210 that nicely eliminates the problem.

Took out the Stgw 57 (Sig 510) at 300 meters

As both the rifle and the shooter warmed up, scores increased gradually

I finished with 10 shots on the field target

Nice. I'd love digital target displays like that. It's tiresome walking the length of the range with targets and clothes pins on a hot summer day.

This is a 210-4 from the German border protection, made in the early 50ies (52 maybe) with Sig wooden sports grips

I was going to mention my two Swiss k31's. Awesome straight bolts. I have the gp11 ammo to go with them. The Swiss recommend lubing the bolt cams with moly.

From an early age I was taught "Waste not — Want not."
So to conserve on tape, targets and felt tip markers . . . I make sure to put all my shots through a single hole.

It's more fun to say you shoot at repair centers because that's the only part of the target you use.

Took some 9 mm European service pistols to the range this morning. Weather was fantastic nice temperature and great light and sunshine.

Here in Reno, when I think of Swiss, I think of the post #17 rifle

that is used by several shooters in the stock events...... at the metal targets that some of us shoot, at our meets.

This rifle looks weird, but they sure can shoot.
