Went to lunch at my usual hangout. Arrived 4 minutes after the doors opened and sat in my normal booth. Then nothing for 15 minutes. One of the 8 waitresses' that knows me brought water and said my (new) waitress was tied up with a large group, I could see all 3 of them! There were about 10 other waitresses standing in a group BS ing! I ask the girl that gave me water where she was working today? Out on the patio, I said that's fine I have the usual out there and moved. I had my foods in short order on the patio. I told her she was the one that showed initiative, so she got the customer! When she brought my check, she said thanks for being my only customer so far! I normally have a standard tip that works out to around 20% but today she got extra. It worked out to between 35 and 40%!

I noticed there were NO managers out front the whole time I was there. Probably in the kitchen holding their hands!

About 2 months ago the entire kitchen staff walked out, 15 minutes after they opened the door. It was 45 minutes before I saw those two managers, but my food was fresh, hot, correct and prompt! I guess that crew didn't like getting supervised to do their job! They were replaced in that 45 minutes! It isn't just lazy and privileged white people that find it troublesome to go to and do work! Except for the managers, nobody in the kitchen speaks English. I think there is more than the monetary system that has a big RESET coming!

When I was much, much younger, I worked in a big restaurant that had an open kitchen, with a counter facing it. A guy at the counter ordered a burger, and when it was done I set it in the window. Then I realized all the wait staff were off in a corner gabbing about something, so I went out and took it to him. When he was done, he came into the kitchen and gave me the tip.

Got most of what was posted, but what is service nowadays?

Way back when I was working for a living I was a manager and we needed some help. Interviewed 5 people and hired them. Each told us what great hard workers they were. Sent them off for the required drug test and all 5 failed the test:mad:. I worked for a casino and every month we would put on a big brunch for around 1400 people. To to this we would hire temp help from an agency. The agency would send a list of who they were sending and the Missouri Highway patrol who had an office at the casino would do a back ground check on the list of people. About every other month or so an officer would come in and haul off one or more of our temps because they were wanted somewhere. I was happy to retire and not have to deal with people any longer.

Just last night I took the wife out to the Gold Dust in Reno for a meal.
The greater told us that it would be a 20 minuite wait.

I looked around and counted eight open tables and fout waiters.
This was the second time in a row this happen to me.

I mentioned the open tables to her and she still gave back with a waiting time.
I told her, maybe later, and left.

There are way too many GOOD places to eat at in Reno, to put up with this,
if they are short handed or can't keep up with service.

And the self anointed Gen X ers and Gen Zers or whatever they are think they are Owed a living and a generous tip for not busting their ah butts. Not all of those generations are useless though... like with us boomers. Just seems like there are less and less workers and more job openings.

I know the phrase has been said for years and years now... but, "It's hard to find good help these days" seems to be even harder to me.

I have had very similar experiences at our usual dine-in choices.

People don't seem to have pride and respect in their jobs anymore. I always thought I don't care if I am the CEO or the guy shoveling manure, might as well do a good job. That seems lost on many people. Especially these days.

Good on extra tipping the one who did her job and did it well. They deserve it. People need to not tip bad service. Then they'll get the hint, perhaps.

Since we have to go to Billings quite often to see the doctaries we try to do early. There are always decent places for breakfast. We go to Cracker Barrel when it isn't really busy. The breakfast is usually pretty good and the wait staff at the place in Billings are friendly and fast for the most part. In fact almost always are the wait staff attentive and fast...in every place we have gone to breakfast...many places the dinner staff isn't so good in the same establishments. kind of surprising as from what I observe breakfast crew tips are smaller and you get better service.
