More three inch madness????

What would those grips be called on the top one? I have been becoming more and more fond of that type of grip. Are those N, L, or K frame? Normally I'm a Magnas+Tgrip guy, both those and bananas are growing on me.

Also, what's the official name for the bananas?

Per the paperwork that comes with the K-frame Model 547, "round butt target stocks."

Per a letter from Roy on a Model 36-1, "... round butt banana stocks."

Might be Ahrends Boot Grips. If they are they should have his name on the inside. (well at least mine do)

Here is my contributions to the love of 3 inch barrels:

They are stamped "EAGLE INDIA" on the inside. The finger grooves are slightly off for me but usable for now.
I have a set of Magnas for it but need to order a Tyler T grip.
May order two to split the shipping costs up. Waiting two months for them will be exasperating.

Eagle grips are still around. They used to be one of the top suppliers of Sambar Stag grips when it could still be imported.

I really like the 3" K and L frames. They really carry, handle and shoot well! Currently I have four, I found them really when I wasn't specifically looking for them.

My first 3" S&W was my CS1, that I bought in the mid 1990's when I wanted 686, nobody really knew about them then, I thought that the 3" was kind of cool.

The second is my M64-3 Ex police trade in. My gun dealer had this M64 and a 3" M65 plus a half dozen 4" M64's and M65's. This was in the very early 2000's. At the time I was into early 1920's - 1930's 1905 hand ejectors and figured that I needed something a little more modern to shoot. After I got it home and read up on the 3" S&W's, I went back the next day to get the 3"M65 and it was gone.

The next one that I got is my 3" nickel M13-3. A couple of years ago I was looking at a GB seller that I had bought off of before to see if they had any thing of interest and this showed up. I put a bid on it and didn't think that it would walk and I won.

My newest 3" is my M66-3 and it is a favorite! Last Fall I was again looking at a GB seller for something else and it showed up, put a bid on it and won.

Bit of an unusual 3-incher.

Here is my 64-3 3" NY-1 with my 3" 650

The 650 is from fellow forum member and dear friend IBSandy who left us way to early. I smile every time I hold the gun as I know he would knowing I taught my sons to shoot with this little j frame with the .22LR conversion cylinder that it shipped from the factory with.

The NY1 is from the first run of of DAOs produced for the NYPD with satin finish and serial number on the butt only.

This was shipped to and purchased from the NYPD Equipment section and although retired from service use in favor of a Semi auto is still one of my favorite guns to shoot.

That J couldn't have found a better home. I know Sandy would be very happy. And that 64....Oh my!! LOL

I have a couple of three inch model 29s.

I am pretty happy with them, although the one with the Altamonts is pretty rough on the hand when firing it with full house rounds.

There is a Mag-Na-Port Custom 58 over on one of the auction sites I would love to have...3" barrel, round butt, Mag-Na-Port barrel and full hard chrome...but for $2500 I can keep looking...

Bob

I've been salivating over that one for a while now. Stellar piece. That price is pretty silly though.

My only entries into the 3 inch madness. My 3" CS-1 2M, and my Model 65 that I had a gunsmith in Hayward, CA. convert for me in 1981. S&W didn't make a 3 inch 65 then, so I had to improvise. Shortened the barrel to almost 3 inches, match crown, red insert in front sight, Model 66 target hammer and trigger, and a super slick duty action job. I carried it for several years as a U.S. Customs Special Agent.
