Most Dangerous Bird in the World

Ever get too close to a hummingbird nest?? They can be just as nasty as their bigger cousins.

I was dive bombed by one once for the above mentioned crime. I don't know if 0.2 oz of angry feathers could do much damage, but it wasn't for lack of trying....

Turkey are the danger around here. A good friend of mine is an archery nut, shot professional for a number of years. He was also State champion heavyweight wrestler in high school. A big strong man. He hit a turkey with his bow years ago, but apparently failed to hit vitals. He approached to try to wring its neck. That turkey flat out pulverized him, beating and scratching him terribly. His wife, an ER nurse, says he looked like he went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. Face was a bloody mess, heavily bruised as well. At least the turkey didn't bite his ear off!

There was an aggressive, supersized goose on one of my walks. He'd see you coming and if he thought you had food he'd paddle over, followed by his fleet of smaller, hangers on geese, climb up the bank and approach aggressively.

I carry a walking stick/trekking pole.

About six months ago he pulled this move on us and I held him at bay with my walking stick, keeping it pointed at his chest when he tried to maneuver around it. Eventually I backed way, and after establishing perhaps a 20 yard separation, walked on, with glances over my shoulder to be sure he wasn't following.

Have not seen this goose for several months now. I think he likely approached the wrong guy, or a coyote or dog got him.

I did think at the time of my encounter that my sword cane, which was not with me, would be handy if the goose were to decide to impale himself.

Sticking with the goose thread, a sign on the London Underground:

I have a long scar on my arm from being "emunized" by a female emu that was protecting her eggs. During the emu craze of the 90s, someone dumped a group off on our hunting lease. The quickly established residency, and became a total nuisance, and a dangerous one. There's still a few around.

hmmm
That's the load I use for Condor and spotted owl. Tastes like chicken. :D

Marlon: "Here's Jim about to crawl into the Giant Condor's nest to count the eggs".

"Here's the mother Condor unexpectedly returning to the nest."

"The female Giant Condor has amazing lift capabilities."

"We'll be right back after this message from our sponsor."

That is a Big bird, looks even bigger than out native Turkey.

I think that I would be shooting BIG BB's at that bird, as many as posible,
just to be on the safe side, if it came to that.

Might be good with yams, though ?

A 4 foot long 2"x 4" found along the bank of a body of water can work well to detour aggressive geese. I've also found that tree limbs that are the right size and diameter are good for most unruly birds.

Hand to bird combat usually favors the human but a weapon as previously described delivers a better result for both the bird and the human.

Weapon or hand to bird, once contact is made the lesson is learned by the bird and needs not be repeated. At least, that has been my experience. :D
