Most expensive firearm you ever bought or almost bought?

I haven't spent over $900 on a smith revolver yet but I've got a few rifles and a T/C contender that have broken the $1000 mark.

Hand gun - S & W Lew Horton .44spl. Bought it from a retired Dallas cop for $700.00 It had been his duty weapon. When I was forced to sell a lot of guns I very reluctantly included that one. I priced it at $1100.00 in the hopes that no one would buy it and had decided not to lower the price any. I was still putting things out on the table at the gun show when a guy walked up and bought it and he spread out 11 $100.00 bills out on the table with out batting an eye and he had a big grin on his face when he did it. It hurt me to let it go.

Long gun - Colt AR-15 LE6920. bought it at a gun show for $1050.00 with a discount for cash. BTW that same day a LGS was selling them for $1789.00. I sold it the same day as the Lew Horton for $1200.00

Most people wouldn't call this expensive...

....but when I was looking for a .357 a 686 was out of reach so I looked at Taurus and Ruger., favoring the Ruger because of their reputation. But, IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A 686.

So I went for broke and I've never been sorry.

In 1997, I bought my mint-1935 M-98 German Mauser with 25 rd fixed (ansteckmagazin) for $800.00. I don't know what that is in today's $$$. A few years ago I bought one of those ATI STG-44/ .22 for $705.00 and yeah-I know-I likely paid about $150.00 too much for it BUT-it was during the gun scare of that time and I wanted it THAT badly. Also came in the wooden box-which likely tacked on an extra $100.00.

I did buy this Browning 725 Grade V last year. MSRP $5,400.

I paid less than that, but it was still the most expensive gun I ever bought.

USA Shooting Team Edition Steyr LP-1 Match Grade 10M air pistol. Amazing Olympic grade /aspirin splitting accuracy at 10M . Phenomenal in every way and gets about 350 shots out of one CO2 filling. This gun put me at the top of our local leagues for many a year.
Gave $1250 for it back some 20 years or so ago.

I bought a Browning Medalist, in the velvet box, for somewhere around a grand once. It was nice, but too much money for what it was, so I sold it and made a little money on it.

$1300 for a Benelli M3 auto/pump combo 12 ga. Was almost double what I paid for an electroless nickel Colt Custom Combat 10 10mm. The Colt today is worth probably more than twice the Benelli. Both purchased new. I feel like a cheapskate after reading most of the replies here.

For me it would have to be my .44 AutoMag Harry Sanford Commemorative Model 1 of 1000. In all actuality though, less than 300 were produced and mine serial number is very low 2 digits. Paid north of $3K for it almost 10 yrs ago. Photo is representative, not of mine.

This 1918 Carl Gustafs m/41B with a 1942 A. Jackenroll Optische scope sitting on top of it. I use it to shoot in vintage sniper matches. It's good to 700 yards and that's only because that's the limit of the ranges I've shot at.

Neat stuff everyone and its funny, but I don't think any of us has spent too much, yet. I have recently been participating in online auctions (not Gunbroker) and have failed to win. Do to mission creep and the "fun"sensation of near gambling involved with this online bidding I will soon spend too much. I can hardly wait!

I bought a new Krieghoff K-80 Skeet gun, The gun, case and Briley sub-gauge tube set
ran just shy $10,000 shipped to my FFL. I still have it. It's a great shotgun.

SCAR 16 - $2,200. I did look at (with no intent on buying) a beautiful, museum quality, LNIB, unfired, 1896 Broomhandle Mauser pistol, fully factory engraved at Mauser from the turn of the 20th century once. It cost as much as my house. To say it was beautiful is to do it a hideous injustice. When I looked at it, I heard angels singing.

I like pre-war Merkel o/u engraved shotguns, custom engraved Colts and S&Ws.

I shoot em....And I put more value on the enjoyment of such items, than the monetary lay out.

When they hit the shallow end of five figures, I sometimes slow down a wee bit.....

Based on what they're selling for these days, I got a screaming deal! Still had to go with noodles and pb&j for a time.

A few years ago we bailed my BIL out of jail, to the tune of $2500. He gave us his pre-ban Steyr Aug w/3 magazines, a Ruger P89, and a Calico M951 as collateral. Since then, he's done time in prison for dealing drugs, so as far as I'm concerned, his time to pay us back has long expired.

The Calico I consider trash, and I'm not too wild about the Ruger. But this Steyr is one sweet rifle!

Considering the value of the two I don't care for, I have about $1700 in the Steyr. But it's not like I bought it on purpose.

On the other hand, I have about a grand in my Ruger #1a Light Sporter .270 Winchester w/ Leupold VX1 3x9x40. This one I bought on purpose! (No good photo at the moment!)

In the 80s before they became "bad", they were available for $450, including a LH conversion.....another example of "woulda, coulda shoulda......."
