+ 1 for the XDs. The "hand grenade" grip texture is a bit aggressive but you can't beat the reliability, .45 punch and size. It's virtually the same dimensionally as the Shield.

+100 for the PPS. The "hand grenade" grip texture is just right, and you can't beat the mega-trauma that is a 40 S&W, or the perfection that is a Walther. Oh, and it's virtually the same dimensionally and weight wise as the Shield. 
P.S. If you hurry, you may luck out and get one with the S&W rollmark on the slide.

My sig p938 is very light and accurate. However, you'll pay nearly twice the price of other micros. The trigger is excellent, too.

My springfield XDS has had 400 rounds so far of different brands, loads, etc and hasnt missed a beat. It is now my EDC

i have a desert micro eagle with around a 900 rounds through it with no issues very well built.

I bought a Keltec P-32 that a homocide det who had carried it as a bug gun for 10 years. I figured it was OK for the very small glove box of her Acura. I've trained her if someone attempts to entry her car to roll the window down a bit and fire a few rounds. She also has 2 Large pepper sprays if she needs them.

Well, these were invented before such a term was in vogue, but the Colt Model M Pocket Pistols are single stack, small, and very, very reliable.

O.k., I have a SIG P290 B series 9mm. I sent it back to SIG for no reason but to have the re-strike trigger upgrade. They did that. I have never had any feed, fire or eject problems with it. It puts holes in targets where it's supposed to. 1" thick, not heavy, has excellent night sights (SIGlight).

I just fired 15 shots from a brandnew Kahr P380 with a pink frame...ball ammo..no failures.
My new last summer Beretta Tomcat has been quite trouble-free..again I use ball ammo in it. I did have what I believe to be a 'limp-wrist' incident with it on the first outing with it...but no further issues of any sort.
My old FN Browning .25 auto..never has failed me...and it's rough as a cobb!

Had a LW Commander .45 back in the 70s that I loved; the frame finally cracked at the slide stop pin hole. I still miss that gun. If I could find the same gun new today I'd buy it. Just don't care for ducktail grip safeties, ambi safeties, and so forth.
Got a Kahr CW .45 about a year ago, put some 330 rounds through it. Great trigger, great accuracy for a smallish howitzer, and not bad to shoot. But I had trouble with mag drops and occasional failures to feed. Fiddled with it but it never got to the point where I wanted to trust it. Put it on consignment recently and don't want it to come back.
I keep coming back to revolvers and "six for sure". Everything breaks sometime, but quality wheelguns break a lot less than anything else I know.
I have thought about a 9mm Shield, but reloading for 9mm is a pain and for the moment cheap FMJ is hard to find. Guess with one thing and another I don't find much of a case for these pistols. Maybe I'll just get another 442 and carry both for a total of 10 rounds?

I started this thread a while back because I was "in the market" for just such a pistol. My new Kahr CM9 seems to fit the bill. It has been flawless through it's first 200 rounds including some reloads with flat nosed hollowpoints. Attached is a picture of the first five shots fired at 25 yards, offhand. The accuracy was quite a shock!

Kahr P380 is the one I selected over the others. Outstanding quality, great trigger and flawless after the Kahr recommended breakin.

To be frank about function; the sub-compact 1911's can have issues. When they are tuned, then they work. Period. But they often need some tuning, and can be ammo sensitive.
As for all the rest, lumped into one big pile: If I were looking for a feature that would make the pistol LESS likely to ever have an issue? Hammer beats striker every time. Smaller pistols, in general get some smaller parts to work with. There have been, and continue to be some pistols which have a striker fire system that hits on the light side.
There have been, and always will be, ammunition that has harder primers than others. THIS is the primary issue for reliability.
If I were choosing a defense pistol, I would rather opt for a hammer fired unit over a striker fire.
I carry the LC9, and it's a decent pistol. I am not enamored with the trigger. If the trigger were better, it would rank as a fantastic pistol.
Most sub-compact SA pistols have rather rough triggers on them with long pulls to reduce accidental discharge when pulling them from a concealed location- ie pocket.
In general, ALL these sub compact pistols need 300-500 rounds thru them to work the triggers in.

This is what I bought my lady yesterday except pink-framed...I think it's going to be a keeper.
