....if you could only have one gun....

I hit the "Like" button on this one so hard, it broke.

1. "9mm vs. .45acp."

Having trouble sleeping? Read one of the myriad threads on this subject approximately 45 minutes before bedtime. Inform your doctor you no longer need your prescription for Ambien.

2. "Is the .38 Special okay for self defense/home defense?"

If you aren't a drinking man, get involved in one of these threads. You'll soon be in the car, yelling and honking the horn at pedestrians to get out of the way as you speed towards the closest package store.

3. "Open Carry"

This is a no-brainer. Just stay away from any thread involving open carry. Just say no. Guaranteed to generate mini-flame wars and bring out forum members who haven't posted in years. Stop reading and log off the forum immediately upon seeing the first comment about open carry in Texas. Don't give in to the temptation to keep beating this poor ol' pony.

Bravo, Watchdog! This thread in general, and this post in particular, made me smile.

I'm no stranger to forums, and moderated a motorcycle forum once. In the motorcycle sphere, there is no single topic so incendiary as an oil thread. Mention a brand/weight/etc., or better yet, besmirch a fellow riders' brand, and hysteria ensues.

:D

I have this here old ammo at least a year old. Is it safe to shoot?

My gun jams!
Really? is it a failure to advance, failure to feed, failure to chamber, failure to fire, failure to extract or failure to eject?

Why can't I use lead bullets in my Glocks?

Caliber bashing.

"Hey guys I just got a gun chambered in (anything other that .22lr, .357 or .44/45) looking forward to shooting it."

Then it starts:

-that caliber won't do anything a .357 can't do
-you really need a .44/45 for sd
-.41 mag is ok, but there are many more ammo options for .44
-.22 mag is noisy and doesn't perform that much better than .22lr

Forget about the fact that these "off" calibers have been around 50-100 years and millions of guns have been chambered for them.

Rant off

If you could keep only one gun, what would it be?

Just to play the devil's advocate, I think I asked most of those often repeated questions when I was a newbie. What fun is it to join a forum just to be told to use the search function? I cringe when I see that. Besides, things change over time. Frog lube for instance, lol. I used to jump into those "what's the best SD ammo" threads with enthusiasm. Now I just kinda skip over them and other jaded topics. There only so many questions that can be asked about firearms, but I do enjoy helping out the newbs from time to time.

We talk about eclipses, hurricanes, scams, spams, drones, holy grails, exploding 40 cals, rattlesnakes, etc, there isn't anything wrong with that either.

Ok, heard it.
You guys don't like Longmire threads.
It is one of my favorite TV shows and filmed here.
I join Netflix just to see it.
For a trade off, how bout less cat threads?
Unless, your cat is packing and shooting +P.

No one has even mentioned the Gun Show Reports that I start about a dozen times a year. I missed OGCA today, so I'll start 2 of them next weekend.
