I’m a pretty avid bicycle rider. Started mountain biking around 1990 with my first mountain bike, a Nishiki, and got heavy into road riding years later. Between vintage mountain bikes and more “modern” road, gravel and mountain bikes, my collection is at eight now. That includes a vintage 1997 Keith Bontrager Privateer.
Recently my daughter, who’s a big CrossFit girl, got interested in biking and we went out and got her a nice gravel bike to use on and off road. It’s a great all around bike, but not exactly well suited for real mountain biking on the incredible trails here on Long Island.
So today, she took her first real mountain biking ride, on the Bonty. We did about 10 miles total on some beginner/ intermediate trails and you know what? She loved it! I think I have a new riding partner. I wonder how long until she gets the itch for a new mountain bike…
