Mountain Gun Sickness!

Yes, I passed on one a couple years because it had the MIM parts, oversized cylinder stop lug and frame mounted fire pin. I know it's petty, but I like what I like.

They wanted $1499
That's about the going rate for one. They were only made for a year, and they were all 657-4s. So, that is the only way you can have them.

Later they made some 57 Mountain Guns with the IL.

Haven't seen one since. Perhaps I should have grabbed it. :)

Here is my Mountain Gun, Model 625-6, paired up with my 45 ACP Model 28-2.

Yes, I like the 45 ACP revolver with the 4" tapered barrel.

I just realized, that image has the conversion stocks on the MG. I need a new image with the rb stocks in place.

Probably the best series of revolvers S&W has ever made... Between the slim barrel and round butt they have "balance".

Have had:
657 (2)
57
629-2 (1)
629-5 (2)
625 SA Comm. (1)
625 .45 ACP (2)

Only have one left...the 657. Would love to have another 625 .45 ACP but prices are $1200-1700....

The DeSantis Speed Scabbard works real well for CC. A Simply Rugger Sourdough Pancake for the field...

I had a 686 7 shot MG for a while. Never got to shoot it, and had to sell it when I needed money about 10 or so years ago. I really hated to and regret it more now. Probably too rich for my blood now, but I would seriously consider a shooter now.

Interestingly the first Mountain "Revolver" was the 629-2 and kinda set the standard.
It had a round grip frame, was bead blasted SS and used a narrow rib profile barrel.
Apparently it was a hit and versions followed in various calibers beginning with the number "4".
Then they offered a .357 version built on the L frame, they must have sold well because various other variations appeared including blued guns and even a K22 version.

I would love an L frame MG. Which ones had one piece barrels? I thought some had a two piece barrel.
