Welcome to the forum - and madness of S&W revolvers, bellyscraper!

Times must have been tough, Rolan - I know you liked that 625MG! My first S&W, a shocker of a gift from my wife, was my .45 Colt 625MG - 9/02. I liked it so much, I traded a Ruger Bisley 5.5" SS .45 Colt for another one some years back. Although it's the previous model, it's my 'shooter' - that first one has sentimental value.

Be advised - you'll go broke shooting even the least expensive 'cowboy' ammo in it. Mine started my reloading hobby - for .45 Colts only, of course. That blossomed... I started making ammo in calibers I didn't have firearms in - then needed more guns! I reloaded to shoot - now I shoot to reload! That 625MG started all of this...

Another welcome here, bellyscraper. you have a very nice Mountain Gun. I only own one of them and it is a lot of fun to shoot but does have considerable recoil with full power loads. Enjoy your and congrats again on a good deal.

Hey Duke426, did you notice that your post count went to 629 on a Mountain Gun thread?

I have one just like yours I got last Summer. I had a 625 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt in the 90's that I traded for something and immediately regretted. They are wonderful revolvers. They go well with the single actions in .45 Colt I have for CAS. I am not crazy about the lock on the new one but its not a deal breaker for me. Ammo can be a problem if you have to use factory stuff. Its a great cartridge for a reloader though. I think you will like it lots...

This is my 25-13 Mountain Gun I picked up last year. Factory ammo is a bit picky with this, but it loves handloads, this one is particular to 8.5 grains of Unique and 250 grain lead bullet.

I am somewhat handicapped as I only have two 625's and none of them are Mountain Guns.

However, I shoot my two a LOT (based on last year will probably see 5000 rounds through my two 625's this year). At any rate, both of mine are for the .45 ACP. However, these comments apply to both the .45 ACP and .45 Colt. If you want a sweet load for target shooting, any of the 200 gr SWC's with a light load (4.0 grs of Bullseye or equivalent for the .45 ACP or 5.0 grs of Bullseye with the .45 Colt makes a very nice target load for both 25 yards or 50 yards.

It is VERY pleasant to shoot and also works extremely well for edible small game. That load in a Mountain Gun would be a very nice trail gun load. Of course, if you want/need more power you can easily get 1000 fps safely with either caliber with that same 200 gr bullet. Unique works extremely well with this power range (see your loading manual).

I am currently casting and loading both the H&G #130 and the Saeco #68 bullets for this use. Lee's 452-200-SWC or even the Lee 452-200-RF should work as well. If you opt for the Lee moulds, I suggest the six cavity moulds. They only cost a bit more and you can get into REAL production with these moulds.

Looking into a crystal ball, I believe I can see a Mountain Gun with my name on it, in uh-h, let me see, .45 ACP

You will enjoy your MG. I have one in .44M and it is one of my favorites.
If recoil ever get too much, get a set of the Hogue X frame grips from S&W.

I have two mountain guns, 625 (45 Colt-no lock) and a 629 (lock) and I enjoy them both. I have other .44 mags so the 629 MG has become my favorite .44 special gun. The .45 Colt is my favorite. Someday I will find the .357 version. I also have a non-mountain gun 625 (4"-45 acp-no lock) from about 1989 so I have never been in a hurry to find the MG version. The MG's are great guns.

One of the most accurate guns I own.

Shown with round to square conversion grips.
You have just started the addition.

Welcome, and a very nice gun you found there. I love my MG in 45 Colt, it's one of my favorites. I'd like to see S&W make some of these based on the 21-4, with fixed sights in blue or stainless. It would be the prfect carry revolver!
Here's mine.

I shot mine Sunday. I installed Pachmyr deaccelerator grips because the open back strap hogues don't provide the cushion I want.

I shot the last of the loads below. My revolver is extremely accurate and still hits hard at 50 yards.
