So I have my 15-22 dialed in good @ 50yds. I am using 3 inch targets. I am shooting mostly Fed bulk and CCI, and CCI blazer. If I move out to 100 yds am I going to be on the paper? I know there will be bullet drop. My main concerns are w/a 3-9 scope. what power binoclures will I need?. What grouping should I expect? I am physicaly unable to check targets by going out to see them, so I need to know where my hits are from 100 yds. I am using shoot and see targets. I have a few bigger targets, but love the challenge this brings. Do I need better ammo? Thanks in advance as this forum is the best. BiggB

Lots of factors but you could use a page such as this ShootersCalculator.com | Ballistic Trajectory Calculator To get an idea. What I plugged in for 22lr zeroed at 50 gave about -5 inches at 100. Or in other words you'd have to hold about 5 inches high.
For a spotting scope you likely want something up to 60x I think most spotting scopes are along the lines of 40x-60x or maybe as low as 20x. Also helps if you have someone else watching through the spotter scope or an adapter to attach a camera/cell phone as it can get tough to keep track of all the holes to know which is new after a number of shots and moving back and forth between shots is not so easy.
If shooting from a bench it can also help to have a tripod for the scope so it is not on the same bench. Not that 22lr in a long barrel is going to shake the table much.

I agree. I bought a baby monitor for this. I can shoot up to 300yds and see everything. No looking for little tiny holes through a spotting scope. However, shooting over 75yds I switch to my savage btvs. Groups much tighter than a semi auto.
Im guessing 5-8moa at 100yds with bulk ammo and bench reat shooting.
Offhand shooting IMO would open up alot.

As others have said, you'll be on paper, but you'll need to aim higher.

Alternatively, sight in at 25 yards, at which point you are almost dead on at 100, and you aim an inch or so low at 50 yards.

As far as grouping, expect twice the group size. The rifle is generally 2-4 moa, so at 100 yards, expect a 4" grouping. But if you get a 3" grouping at 50 yards, then expect 6" at 100.

A standard clay pigeon is 4" in diameter, and makes a nice visible reactive target, assuming your range allows it (i set them on the backstop.. Check with your RO first, of course). As you hit them, you can take on the additional challenge of shooting at the remnants.

I generally figure about 6" low at 100yds with a 50 yard zero, but ammo, barrel length, and bullet weight variations make it a little tough to estimate closer. Also, the height of your sight over the bore will influence the change. A higher sight line will "flatten" the drop a skosh.

Baby Monitor? More details please :).

I use clay targets on a backstop at about 75 yards and I agree makes a nice reactive target. Even more so if you fill it up with tannerite :D

Clay also works well for handgun at closer range.

I have though about putting some sort of camera down range with a remote viewer or smartphone app but was concerned about hitting the camera and destroying it.

Likely too expensive right now but I would love to have a setup like I have seen at competition where the target appears on a monitor with the last new hole highlighted.

Try this one...

Put the camera/transmitter out at the target, and the receiver/monitor where you are.

Never done it...but can't imagine it's any tougher to figure out than I described. :D

You're right, I just had a brain fart I guess... My luck some dolt would take out the camera on the public range lol. Still, seems like a great "outside the box" solution.

Simple fix. Put a 1/4" or 1/2" steel plate infront of the camera.
The baby monitor works great. Cheap batteries and cheaper than a target camera.
Has a zoom and pan feature.
Happy shooting

Lots of factors but at 100y even a 15-22 should be able to do around that 3" mark. It is generally considered a 2-4 MOA rifle and your target is 3 MOA. I would suggest some kind of standard velocity ammo instead of high velocity. It will drop more but something like CCI Standard Velocity will group much better than Fed bulk or some other hi-velocity plinking ammo.

I hope U don't use up that carton of Ammo I needed shooting on 100 yard targets ! 22 shorts are better for that range.

Until I burn through a few thousand rds of ammo on hand , I wont be making any ammo puchases, unless I get a hundred CCI SV to see how they group. It may not take long, I shoot about 3-400 rds every time I shoot. BiggB

I was finally able to shoot at an outdoor range in the outerbanks while on vacation last week. I bought a cheap 3-7x32mm Centerpoint from Wal-mart and was hitting groups at 25 and then 100. Although at 100 it was a little harder to tell where the shots were hitting but the reactive targets I was using helped. I think a 9x40 would've been better and that's what i'm planning on getting next since I returned the other one since it had a dent in it.

I guess I needed to add bolt action with shorts at 100 yards plus range.

Tongue in cheek humor about saving the ammo LR CCI for me. LOL

AIRWOLF.

The baby monitor transmits 300 yards?

I assume it is wireless?

What brand?
How much?
Where did you get it?

So far---all my inquiries into coming up with such a system involved more money than I wanted to send.
