Hello, I think I may have been snookered on my first new gun purchase. The salesman sold me the MP 22 from the display case. It looked okay on the outside, I did not know anything about the inner workings of the gun, or, what the rules of the road were in purchasing a handgun from a gun shop. Guns Galore. As I learned more about my purchase, I noted the barrel portion where the ejector arm hits the barrel seemed crescent shaped, like the barrel had been chipped away in that area. I contacted the gun shop and brought it in for them to look at. 3 of the salespeople thought it looked okay, suggested I shoot the gun, S&W had a lifetime warranty on the barrel if it ever needed replaced. I noted that other guns of the same model had a v shaped area on the barrel where the ejector extracts the spent cartridge. As I learned more and more, found the test fired bullet from the factory had a date showing me the gun was manufactored 15 mos previously! I came to the conclusion the gun had perhaps been in the display case a long time and had probably been dry fired many times. The firing pin or striker, whatever it is called seemed okay, but, I had read somewhere the MP 22 ejector arm would hit more on the inside of the barrel rim when the gun was dry fired. I now believe that is why the barrel had a cresent shaped area instead of the v shape I saw on other guns. I believe the salesman took advantage of my ignorance of firearms to get rid of the gun that had been in the display case. It was sold to me at full price as a new gun. What do some of you more experienced gentleman think? Any suggestions? Thanks!
