Didja ever have one of those deals where nuthin' wanted to go right? Well, here's my story. It'd probably be funny if had happened to somebody else.
Some of you may recall that about a month ago I mentioned that my son's Sig P220 Compact had flung a cravin' on me. I wanted a full sized P220 for myself. Sounds simple enough don't it?
I started a thread here asking for info, pros and cons an such about the gun. BTW: the knowledable folks here were very helpful. ;)
So I watch GB and come across a gem. Mid-90s production P220 in the box, looks absolutely new and the price was very good. I bid on it and won!
And that's when the trouble started.

Jan 11 Sun: Auction closes, I win!
Jan 12 Mon: I send USPS MO as payment via snail mail. My dealer send his FFL via e-mail. Seller notified.
Jan 16 Fri: Seller send e-mail asking where's the money? Dude, its only been four days. You're in NY, its winter. Be patient.
Jan 19 Mon: MLK day- no mail
Jan 20 Tues: Seller acknowledges payment recieved. Can't find FFL. Uh, try your spam folder. Call my FFL and have him resend. Later Seller says he has it.
Jan 23 Fri: Seller ships gun USPS 2nd Day. How come it took three days to send it out?
Jan 26 Mon: Tracking shows gun is in town and Out For Delivery. Unfortunately, the store is closed on Mondays. Delivery doesn't happen, but mailman doesn't leave a card for local Post Office pick up????
Jan 27 Tues: Tracking says "Moved - No Forwarding Address. Return to Sender" WTH???

Now at this point some explaination is in order. My dealer is semi-retired. These days the vast majority of his business is tranfers for internet sales. As such, he works out of a local jewery store and that's his business address. The local Mailman, UPS and FedEx drivers all know this and up until now there's never been a problem with deliveries.
8:30am: Post office opens and I'm on the phone with them. Meanwhile, my dealer is in the area so he's stops by the PO. The hope is to head off this package before it actually leaves.
The folks at the Post Office are scratching their heads, can't explain it and it takes a while to figure out just what happened.
The story they finally pieced together: On that particular day the regular mailman was out and a substitute ran his route. The sub shows up at the store and finds it closed. (Monday, remember?) The address is right, but the package is for a gun shop and this is a jewery store. Nevermind the fact that the store has been there for many years and looks it. This genius, in true government fashion, decides the gun shop must have moved. So he doesn't leave a pick up card and marks the package return to sender.
But of course, by the time they figure it out, my gun is already headed back to New York.
My dealer calls the seller and tells them what's going on. The seller is actually pretty cool about. He admits they've been having problems with USPS lately and he'll ship the gun again when it arrives. Did I mention the entire Northeast is having a blizzard right now?

Feb 4 Today: 24 days since the auction ended. The gun finally makes its way back and I finally pick it up. Thank God!
BTW: the gun is even better than it looked in the pictures, I don't think its ever been fired outside of the factory. :D

One more little thing. While waiting for the gun I had already picked out a holster for it but was waiting to order it until I got the gun. Found it on-line at a great price. At least $20 cheaper than everywhere else. Last week I get an e-mail from this particular company advertising a One Day Sale. Save an extra 10% today only. So I went ahead and ordered the holster. Immediately got an e-mail confirming the order. I'm feeling pretty good knowing I'm getting quality leather at a really great price. ;)
A couple of hours later I get an e-mail from them saying: "Temporarily out of stock. Expect delievery in 12 to 21 days".

I just can't win. :(

You have a lot to learn about Murphy------Remember rule #1 " If something can go wrong--it will go wrong--it will not resolve itsownself--and Murphy is having a good time"
Murphy Rules--and he don't care.
Blessings

I could teach Murphy a thing or two.
Like the song says,If it wernt for bad luck I'd have no luck at all.

In addition to the more familiar variety of Murphy's Law, there is the statistician's version sometimes called the Murphy Quantification Corollary:

If there's a 50/50 chance something can go wrong, nine times out of 10 it will.

Also remember Finagle's Constant to Murphy's Law:
Anything that can go wrong will - at the worst possible moment. (snowstorm)

And the O'Toole Corollary of Finagle's Constant: The perversity of the Universe tends towards a maximum.

I gave you a like just in case it might make you feel a little better. Last year I had to chase down a package at my local post office because the carrier didn't ring the door bell or knock on the door.
