I'd like to legally download free music as simply as possible. No software, no registering, no nothing. Just click and download to play back later. Where do I go?

I use mp3skull.com - Free Mp3 Download search for your song and/or artist
then download to your hard drive or usb or play and listen to it. Many times you can also download the entire album. It's free.

Pete

Should mention to use your virus software to check before saving to your hard drive, but I haven't had any problems so far.

So what exactly is out there in the realm of public domain music?

i quit using the "free" ones because if i did find the song that i wanted, it had a virus...

Just about every song written is on YouTube. If you use Firefox as a browser there's an add-on that will convert it to a MP3 & save it for you.

R/E music download viruses. I was under the impression MP3 files could not carry them? I have downloaded thousands of free internet MP3 music files since the days of the original Napster, without problems.

The 'free' versions....

I've gotten some free versions of songs, but they are awful rejected tracks or badly mixed takes, or sometimes live. Not worth the trouble. It is unlikely that you can get quality music without paying something. Napster touted 'free' sharing of music and the feds (rightly) shut them down.

Artists don't give away their music -- its how they make their living. Almost all "free" services operate without paying any royalties.
