Some of the traditional Russian songs are truly beautiful, and beloved by the Russian people. When I studied Russian, one of the songs that my teacher taught us was Подмосковные вечера, which is usually translated as "Moscow Nights", or "Moscow Summer Nights". There are several versions on YouTube, this one sort of showcases some of the Moscow sights.

Подмосковные Вечера - YouTube

It has English subtitles, but you may have to turn them on in settings, if they don't open automatically. A very haunting melody that I learned many years ago, before I ever dreamed that I would be hearing and singing it in Moscow one day!!

Best Regards, Les

Your mention of Moscow nights reminds me of the opening of David Lindsey's superb novel, "Requiem For a Glass Heart." It opens with a description of a Russian city, although if memory serves, it's St. Petersburg, not Moscow. The author makes the city and the characters come alive.

The plot involves a Russian woman who has been compelled to become an assassin for a mobster who kidnapped her daughter. Action moves quickly to London, then to Texas where she must avoid capture by another woman, an FBI agent, working with a German agent. In time, they go after the mobster in a thrilling manhunt that must also rescue the missing daughter.

I think you'd like that book. BTW, the scenes near the front where she kills a corrupt politician with a CZ-75 are very innovative and plausible. I wouldn't be surprised if someone has set up a killing in just that way.

And also the lovely, pure soprano from the pop/folk genres(or whatever one chooses to call them), Judith Durham of the Seekers:

My favorite Enya song is "How can I keep from singing."

I recently heard a cover of S&G's "Sound of Silence" by Disturbed, a group I'd never heard of and still not a fan of their genre; however, I really like this version.

Disturbed "The Sound Of Silence" 03/28/16 - YouTube

yes this is a great cover, one that might not be expected considering the different genres. I find the same results (cross-genres) in Johnny Cash's version of 'Hurt' which was a hit for Nine Inch Nails. Both covers can be very dramatic in how they are delivered.... often not the case when a band does a cover.

I love the Righteous Brothers version but for some reason this cover speaks to me on some level. There is something in her voice. Kind of like Tony Bennett when he sings I Left My Heart in San Franscisco. Not the best voice but some deep inner passion/sincerety comes out. I don't know the right word. Lykke Li,

I've long liked this one from Julio Iglesias, not to be confused with his son, Enrique. I can't say I like Enrique's style.

But listen to his dad. He's a remarkable singer.

Besides this, another favorite that I bought is,Dusky Dancer/Baila Morena which I originally heard on the soundtrack in a Mexican restaurant. I had to look awhile, but found it.

I found that Marley song we discussed. It does have a certain relaxed melody.

If you really want to enjoy "the last of the Mohicans" go to "The Hot Violinist" on YouTube. It is a feast for both the ears and eyes!

I like Marley....

Does anyone here like the late Bob Marley?

I need to listen more to him. When I hear 'Reggae' I think 'Red Red Wine"

Speaking of Reggae, Led Zepplin expected a group of reggae musicians to come help them record a song but the group didn't show up. Zepplin decided to try to make the song on their own. It was really interesting, but it WASN'T reggae:

The guitar solo notes to me sounds like "50"s" music.:)
