Music You Enjoy

A long time ago a good old boy from across the river came into the shop. He has a "deep in the holler" accent so thick you could cut it with a boat oar.

He said he had been saving up for one of them fancy French guitars he had been seeing on the Opry that had "Lay Paul" on the headstock.

I obliged him.

I think music is safe in the hands of youngsters.

I can agree with that statement - as long as re-interpreting the classics of the past is where you set the bar.

HOWEVER, if you are expecting something equally original, then today's bands & musicians fall far, far short of the musicianship of previous generations, IMO. The complexity and subtle nuances of the bands of the past is simply missing from today's music.

There seems to be nothing in the current playlist that duplicates the music of bands like Jimi Hendricks, Steve Miller, Boston, Rush, Kansas, Yes, Genesis, Styx, Foghat, BTO, etc.
Or maybe I'm just missing something?

FWIW, I don't even presume to be anywhere near the musical aficionado that you are Rusty1953. Truth be told, I'm not even a musician. I'm just a fan/listener.

But it seems to me that modern music doesn't even BEGIN to attempt to incorporate the concepts or meaning that can be found in the music of 40 or 50 years ago.

Just my opinion.
