I don't like worrying about it. When I get back to Oregon, I am gonna buy a safe, have it bolted into/onto an inconspicuous closet corner, and be done with it.

Just one safe? They seem to multiply when they are left alone in a dark basement.

Well, when we lived in a house I had a 30 gun safe bolted to the floor. Since we abandoned stationary living I gifted most guns to the grandkids and sold others that had little sentimental value (yeah, I miss some of them...especially my Model 57s and 27s...oh well). I kept a couple from my dad and uncle, the rest are carry guns in regular rotation. Security is a challenge, though I keep the ones I don't regularly use in "special locations". Important papers are kept in a fireproof safe.

I’ve seen way too many guns fall into the wrong hands because they weren’t properly secured. What does properly secured mean? That’s up to you based on where you live and the likelihood of being robbed.

Just don’t make excuses. I’ve known many people that were too cheap to buy a decent safe. They would come around once in a while and brag about their latest gun purchase. But a DECENT gun safe was their lowest priority. Laziness and stupidity is what that is.

My kids left years ago. I previously taught them the same thing that was taught to me.

They must handle guns with respect:
Check it twice before assuming it is unloaded.
Keep the firearm cleaned and ready to fire on a person that illegally invades your home or property.

It's the rules in GA. Most guys have guns.

I said one murder in in 5 years here. How many do you have in 5 years with your rules?

I have two heavy Gun-safes that are bolted to the floor, and walls, of the closet they're mounted in, for gun protection, and security.

I have loaded firearms, strategically placed in my home, for our protection.

If anyone, be they adults, or adults with children, wish to be our guests, I stop them at the door, and explain the situation. i.e., Persons wanting to be our guests, must abide by my wishes. I'm not obligated to honor theirs.

If my wishes aren't, acceptable to persons wishing to be guests, they’ll be told that they are not welcome, and asked to leave.

This method works.

Washington State reports a lot more crimes, murder, and rape according to the Seatle Times:

Homicides committed across the United States spiked by nearly 30% last year according to FBI data released this week, and the surge was even more pronounced in Washington, which saw a 46% increase in killings amid the pandemic.

Washington also made up a larger share of the nation’s homicides, with that proportion increasing by 21%.

The number of homicide victims [SIZE="7"]statewide [/SIZE]accounted for a fraction of the nearly 18,000 violent deaths reported by law enforcement agencies across the country in 2020, the data shows.

You are 1200% more likely to die a violent death in Washington State than in my neighborhood.
