Muzzle trashed...

The bore gets sealed on the breach end (in this case) a piece of duct tape would cover the port, special liquid is poured in the barrel and then a rod is put in the bore. "O" rings center the rod and you connect a wire to the Barrel and to the rod, reverse electro plating the begins. Barrel is clean with no scrubbing. Beer is allowed in this process!!!

If that works as you say,... Why or earth would they stop making it???...
BTW,... I'm coming over this afternoon with my barrel!

I'll bet lack of sales is the reason they discontinued these. Bring it on by, we'll fix you up.

Ill bring the pizza, I think you already have the beer!...

i've been working on the crud for 2 days now and have reduced it down to what I think is mostly copper jacketing welded up against the inside of the barrel. Anyone know of a product or process to remove this?? I can do it but,... my ideas involve a process that could damage the bluing on the inside .... would rather not damage anything.... thanks.
Also note,...no rifling above the band. You can see the bottom edge of the band in the 3rd pic...
The good news is that the barrel is not damaged. The bad news is that is was very leaded. Keep working at it and you will be able to remove it.

Interesting that there is no rifling in the area of the port. That is likely why there is such a huge amount of lead accumulating in that area. Once you get it clean, I'd say this barrel is suitable only for copper plated or jacketed ammo.

That's really interesting how the fouling appeared to have rifling in the original pictures. My guess is the previous owner shot a lot of lead bullets and the gases flowed around the bullet after it passed the band. The gases would have contained a lot of lead that would condense on the barrel. And the bullets would act like a swage that formed the fouling so it looked like the rifled portion of the barrel.

It looks more like lead than copper to me. And I would not worry about the "bluing" on the inside of the barrel. Barrels look dark from carbon fouling, not bluing.

As long as you reduce the fouling to the point it does not touch the bullet past the band where the rifling stops it should have little to no effect on accuracy. But it would still bother me if it was my gun. Hope you find a way to get it out without damaging the barrel in the process.

I have an Outers Foul out unit that really gets the lead out with no scrubbing. Problem is they haven't made it in about 20 years!!!

I think these were specially designed for the milsurp rifle rush in the early 2000s. Poke around the web enough and you can find how to build one using a left over 9V battery eliminator.

Some of the bores I received were so coppered up I probably should have had a mining license to clean them. I used Outers Foaming Bore Cleaner to get them presentable. I think the record for number of soakings before the patches showed no copper was 17, held jointly by a 1943 Mosin and a 1942 Enfield No4 with two-groove rifling.

For the life in me I can not figure out why you don't ask for a return label from S&W and send it in or why it wasn't returned to the seller. Send it in both for the recall and for the barrel.
Problem solved...
Very interesting comment,....The seller refuses to take the return or compensate me for the issue....because of "As Is" in the item description. seller is Keystone on GB by the way, Beware! (PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT). As for SW,... its got a road trip to MA in its future.
I sent a Sig P320 in for the Voluntary recall,...fairly painless.

Looking great, perseverance and elbow grease. Remember, it's layered, carbon and lead so soaking muzzle up is your friend.
What's the beer count?

I stopped marking the beer count once my fingers got too sore to write!...Hoof.... good news is, I'm in the home stretch run...
The photo tends to exaggerate it a bit, but there is a shelf or step where the rifling stops and the band for the port starts/,... I gotta say, it IS surprising, the frikin' barrel looks brand new under that gunk, like it was protecting it.
