Had my 14-7 out last night for a deep clean and lube. I am a model 14 nut as it is the model I own most of. I do not see 14-7's for sale ever and it is only full lug gun and very accurate as 14's tend to be. Just wondering if a few of my fellow forum members own some. I would like to see any after model 14-4. I have never seen a 14-5 or 14-6 before. Must not have been very big sellers.

I have a 14-5 full-lug model. It has the old-style frame with pressed in cylinder stop and square-butt, which is what I wanted. It came with the wood, finger-groove "combat" stocks, which are OK for me on a low-recoil gun like this one, but I am so used to the target pattern stocks that I put the combats away and use smooth targets. Other than the frame, my 14-5 looks just like your revolver.

I don't think this model was a big seller. It's in fair demand now, or at least the selling prices seem to indicate that. I can't say whether I like this design or the original design better. The full-lug barrel does seem to be a bit easier to hold still, but it wears your arm out more quickly, too.

Here's a pic of all the variations

M14-5 top left, top center four are M14-6 (2 SB, 2RB), top right M14-7
Bottom row have three of the very scarce Roper M14-6 4" models....

Enjoy

Let a well worn 14-5 get away several years ago and regretted. Now have 2 14-5's pictured along with another that has had a trigger job plus scoped. One of the best 38 caliber straight from factory shooters ever produced by S&W IMO.

Have a 6" 14-7 just like yours serial prefix CAZ.
It has one of the best triggers and actions of all my S&W revolvers.

My most unique Model 14's are rare four inch HB 14-2 Hanen specials and an even harder to find factory four inch 14-3.

Ive been prowling the big and little gunshows in northeast texas for a about a year and a half or more and have yet to see a single model 14 with an underlug. Many gun guys here have no idea they exist, they always think Im talking about L frames. There were quite afew made, PPC shooters grabbed a lot but maybe a 1000, that leaves a lot. I carried mine as a duty gun to start and then a Distinguished revolver.Put together a few over the years they are the best shooting guns at least have been for me. I bought a couple barrels over the years and have a couple model 19's that Im gonna put them on to see how that goes. Last one I bought was a late 14-6 anib with a RB. Don't know why I keep looking, DUH...Happy Thanksgiving Bob

Nice collection CALREB. I hope to find a 4" Model 14 Full Lug someday.
Thanks for sharing.

14-5 for possible sale

I have a 14-5, full lug, Combat Grip I would consider selling. No box. Pistol is in excellent shape, no rub marks from holstering. No dents, dings, scratches, etc.. It was purchased by me around 2006 from a friends fathers' Estate sale after he passed away. I have maybe shot it 100 times. Excellent shooter with hands down the smoothest trigger I have ever felt on a DA pistol. I have toyed with the idea of parting with it for a few years. I don't collect Smith's and it holds no sentimental value for me. I will try to post some pictures a little later.
If anyone is interested PM me. Thanks and Best! -Johnny

Here is a very detailed link on post by Dave Nash in 2012 about the Full Lug Model 14

Here is a 14-7 redone by Mojo Custom and 2 friends, the famed 14-6 Roper Guns. The 14-7 was bought here on the forum. Propped the hammer back on the 14-7 to see the hammer that Mojo makes. It's a double action only gun and that's the way I shoot most of the time. Had a lot done to it, very happy I was able to buy it.

The other 2 are 4" Ropers. One had been shot a lot and I continue to shoot it. The other looks unfired. They have a different feel then a 4" 586-686. Thanks to Smithnut when I found them, he helped me identify them. We had 3 of them on display at the NE Ohio Bunch 2 years ago. Enjoy, Larry

Model 14-5

My Model 14-5 shipped May 22, 1992. At one time, Smith & Wesson was giving these out as prizes at sponsored Action Pistol Matches. That's the origin of this one. I've had it since it was new.

Production numbers?

I, too, have a 14-7, with a serial number in the CDJ9xxx range. I see 14-5 and 14-6 guns show up on auction sites waaay more often than the 14-7s, and I wonder just what the production numbers were on this variant - it has to be fairly small,

Many years ago I found a 14-5 at a local gunshow with a Clark Trigger Job that was amazing. Probably didn't give more than $300 for it. As usual, I eventually traded it for something else. It was a very nice gun.
