Let's start at the end, because that's what people want to see. Here is my 15-22 pistol with a cut down AR15 pistol buffer tube and SIG arm brace:
'
When I picked it up (for a quite reasonable $400), it was a plain jane 15-22 pistol. I started looking it over and realized that the sling swivel cup should be removable. It is easily removed and leaves a 3/4" diameter cavity like this:
I contacted a friend and asked about making an adapter for it and he told me to come on over. I picked up some cold-rolled steel 1" round bar and he turned one end down to 3/4", chamfered the turned-down end, bored three holes and threaded two of them for 10-32 bolts.
I sharpened and cut a pin from 1/8" piano wire to prevent the buffer tube from rotating when installed. I drilled the threaded hole in my receiver so I could run a 10-32 button head screw through it and used the pointed end of the pin to mark where to drill a 1/8" hole. I drilled the 1/8" hole so that it didn't go all the way through and would hold the pin captive when the adapter was installed.
I cut the threaded portion of an AR15 pistol buffer tube off and drilled a hole for the 10-32 screw that would fasten it to the adapter and mounted it on the adapter.
I installed the whole assembly in the receiver and secured it with a 10-32x1" button head screw.
This screw sticks out , so I ground a notch in the back face of my bolt with my Dremel and a 3/16" carbide burr.
All that was left was to clean it and build it the way I wanted it. Now, it is the following configuration: S&W M&P 15-22 Pistol, SIG arm brace, Tacticool22.com charging handle, Plinker Tactical ambi latch, cut down 15-22 rifle hand guard, Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on UTG high riser, Mako PTK angled forward grip, Mission First Tactical G27 grip, KNS 15-22 Gen2 Mod2 Antirotation pins, fake Flaming Pig and Geissele SSA-E trigger.
Now I just need to make it out to the Rio Salado Sportsman's Club for some trigger time.
