My 29, SN N382439, any idea when it was shipped?

In 1977 I bought a 29 from a small time gun dealer. In the 90's it was stolen. It was recovered about 5 years ago, and because the serial number had been tampered with, the Montreal Police destroyed it. My nickel plated Colt Police Positive Special met the same fate.

I came across the box and the grips today, which made me curious. I do wonder when it was shipped, how long did it kick around the gunshow circuit until I bought it?

I suppose it is time for closure.

Here is all that is left of my first handgun purchase.

Too many years, but I faintly remember adding a little epoxy to the back of the left grip to take out a little wiggle. I bought a set of Pachmayr grips, ugly, but they worked. They did "cheapen" the overall look of the gun, IMO.

Sorry for your loss. Did you find out what happened (legally) to the person from whom it was recovered?

Probably shipped Feb/Mar time frame 1977.

I have all the papers except for the manual. They were under the blue liner, I don't think I ever had them out, like new.

As far as I know, the thief was never caught. I was told that the 38 was found by police, lying in the street, pretty messed up. The 44 was also "found", serial numbers somewhat messed with. You would not want to visit some parts of Montreal. Which is a shame because Montreal is a pretty amazing place, at least it was 25 or so years ago. I attended the last or almost last NHRA national event there, chatted with Joe Lepone Jr and Don Garlits. Joe gave me a free pass for the event.
