Just got home from the local gun store with a really nice 629 no dash
P&R 6".........thats the good part.....When I looked at the gun 3 days ago(you got to wait 3 days to cool off in Illinois) It was what I had been searching for for a while......I tried the single action and it had a really light trigger......seemed to work ok just light. Double action was very smooth. Picked it up today and didn't get it out of the original box until I got home and was sitting in my chair in front of the TV.....Time to check out the new gun in my pile of N frames.......tried the single action and .........The trigger jumps forward when you pull it !!! ALSO when cocked all you gotta do is touch the hammer and it drops.......What is wrong with my new found hardware ??? I Know it is broke Just need to tell the dealer whats wrong tomorrow so he will fix it......I want to keep the gun Ijust want it fixed......

The springs may be too light. Check the strain screw first.

It could be that someone filed the single action step/sear on the hammer also.

Tlr16 I am in central Ill.....a small little burg called Cooks Mills.....North of Mattoon bout 8 miles. I will let you know what it needs.....it will be going back to the dealer tomorrow......Thanks !!!

It's a condition called "push-off". The single action notch in the hammer may be damaged or the single action sear in the trigger or both may be damaged. If the gun is used, it may be dirt. I would recommend taking off the sideplate and cleaning the insides. Then tighten the strain screw all the way down. That might fix it. If it doesn't then it may have had a bad action job. Then you may have to replace the hammer or trigger or both.

Look in the "Smithing" section under the FAQ by 500 Magnumnut. There is a part in that thread that talks about push off and how it can be repaired.
I was looking at a M629 at a local shop and found it had the same problem. Showed it to the salesman and he quickly took the gun and showed it to another guy who carried it to the back room. Said they could not sell the gun like that. I already had one so I did not pursue it any further.

"the trigger jumps forward when you pull it".
Not sure what you mean by that. I'm thinking someone loosened the mainspring strain screw on the front strap. If it's backed out too far, the hammer will get into a bind leading to a weird feeling trigger pull.

That, as previously mentioned, is "pushoff", a typical symptom of the condition also includes a trigger pull that has become so light that the spring tension of the rebound slide (trigger return spring) is greater than the force applied by your trigger finger, that is why it pushes your trigger back. I would take it back to the store and have them, hopefully, take care of the repair. Best of luck, because it is otherwise a potentially very nice revolver.
Good luck,
Steve
