My 629 no dash

OK made me look too...mine is a -1. I got it on gun auction about 7 years ago. The first S&W I bought was a 8 3/8 M29 at a pawn shop in Columbus GA back in '85 when I joined the Army. I left it at home when I went to Korea for 18 months and when I returned someone had left finger prints all over it that marred the bluing, so I traded it for a 629 nd which I traded for a Dan Wesson .44.

Mine is a 4" with N853XXX. I've had it for over ten years. A local friend and fellow forum member also has one but I don't know his serial number. At one of the Tulsa shows I saw all three barrel lengths on display NFS.

With the intention of adding something to this post, no intention to hijack it. I have an 8 3/8" 629 no dash, P&R, serial number N8671xx on the way. It is coming in the blue two piece box with what appears to be an original end label. The posts here show 629s with higher and lower serial numbers that have the wood presentation box.

My question is: When did S&W cease shipping 629s in the wood presentation boxes?

The practice of shipping guns with the Mahogany Presentation cases was dropped sometime in 1983. However the same case could been bought as an aftermarket item until sometime in 1985. At this time S&W changed the case design(inside and out)! This is the way your 1982 gun might have been shipped!

saemetric, Sir, I believe your end label is not original! The label on that era box would have been computer generated!

Probably one of the last hand written. I bought the gun brand new from RSR Wholesale in 1982. It had this label. I think the computer labels had the serial numbers beginning with the ABC type.
