My mom was cleaning out the attic in the old farm house she grew up in and found an old military chest, and a trunk my grandfather used as his closet...his dad never put any closets in the house he grew up in.

If the military chest had something cool printed on the sides, I'd have left it alone, but it just held tables. Damn thing weighs well over 150 pounds empty. Built for 4 men to carry it. Seems my grandmother painted the trunk some hideous colors.

Somebody did a lot of scrubbing and sanding on those two. Looks good, nice work!

Very nice work. And way to "accidentally" get the Harley and vest in the pics[emoji6]

Those look great! Professional restoration for sure.

I have to ask...how long did it take you to do that?

I would have left the military case alone except for putting a couple radiation warnings on it. :D

Great job on the trunk!

I'd planned on them both being an all winter project, but as always when I start something...I'm a man on a mission.

Probably 6 weeks for the both of them. The chest was just a PITA due to it's size and weight. When I got to the point of the first pic on the trunk I was thinking what have I got myself into. I had to use plastic scrapers and brass and nylon brushes on it. Lots of hard to get paint out of areas.

When I finally got it stripped, I was wondering how I was gonna finish it. I bought some kinda Permatex rust treatment that turned the rusty iron and steel a nice black color, and just left it at that. Left all the wood natural. Figure it would be OK in my climate controlled house.
