My Bodyguard Experience

It is what it is one of the smallest, lightest and least expensive handguns out there. Sure the trigger is long but if you want something better spend more money. It's not a range gun but it fills a niche don't try and make it into something it isn't or wasn't intended to be :)

Id gladly pay $400 for a factory BG 380. I don't want a target pocket gun and am not trying to make it one. Perhaps they should have put some money into the trigger and firing pin and not designing it including that goofy laser. At least they have a model without that mess included so that us good.

But when Ruger can get it so right with the LCP it is a total shame that S&W cannot do the same or better.

You guys don't get the point of the bg. It's not a range gun. It's a up close pull out of the pocket and shoot pistol. It is made with a long trigger pull for a reason.
Read reviews and don't buy the gun. Why act surprised and complain about it.
If you don't like the safety leave it off a lot of people like a gun carried in the pocket to have a safety.
Why do these issues continue to be a debate? It is what it is and is well known if you do your research before buying the gun

I couldn't have said it any better...

I actually have a carry license and my M&P bodyguard is with me most of the time. I keep it in a DeSantis pocket holster with the safety off. The stock trigger pull & DAO hammer is designed specifically for CC. My BG380 has some nice holster wear & I think it gives it some character.
This is a self defense pistol that is actually being put into everyday service. No range queen here

I don't see much difference between the BG and LCP. If you want the best quality small 380 go for a Sig P238 or a larger Walther. On a personal level I would stick with 9mm but that's just me :)

Carry a 9mm now. Looking for something tiny for times when I need to deeply conceal.

938 is pretty cool.

I 100% recommend a P938 it's the best bar none for civilian pocket carry. It's a lot more accurate than it should be for the size :)

I also use the des antis holster. I carry it in my front pocket. If I'm walking out into a dark parking lot I typically have my hand in my pocket On the gun just in case.
The bg is not a range gun. I do not find it fun to shoot at the range. But it has a purpose it is a small gun for concealment and is for up close and personal defense

I use two DeSantis holsters for my Bodyguard. The Sof-tuck #106 which is a suede IWB and the black nylon pocket holster. The Sof-tuck is very comfortable & hardly noticable. I use the blk pocket holster for quick out the door errands...

All comes down to preference. These are fairly cheap guns, and I knew it would take a little modifying to suit me perfectly. Had this been Sig money ($500-700) I might expect a perfect trigger out of the box. As it stands, I am not disappointed.

Sure, it's a mouse gun, but it can be accurate. There seems to be a myth with pocket guns much like shotguns. I hear people say they're only good up close and don't worry about the sights since you won't need them. With the right training though, you can use a home defense shotgun to hit targets at 100+ yards.
There is a YouTube video of a guy shooting a target at OVER 200 yards with his Bodyguard (stock trigger). They can be accurate.

I had looked at the Sig 238, 938, P290RS, Ruger LCP, Diamondback 380, Bersa, etc. I've been considering a pocket pistol for a while. I even bought a Makarov and a KelTec PF-9 in the past but neither one turned out ideal for a carry gun (sold). The LCP was OK but actually seemed too thin in the grip, and the sights were terrible. The Bodyguard seemed to fit my hand nicely and it doesn't "ju,p" in my hands like some thinner guns.

The right button ceased to function on the laser. Also had some other issues. Sent back. Received back gun, issues addressed, and now right button does not function. Disappointing. Will send laser back. Original cost over $400.

Precisely why I bought the model without the laser. I did not care for the look of the gun with the built-in laser, and I've heard more than a few people have issues with them.

I never understood the purpose of a lazer (toy/gimmick, take your pick) on a self defense pistol.
Kinda like having a safety on a pint sized pistol with a heavy DAO trigger... Never understood it.

Not trying to insult or troll. But you would have spent less than $400 bux and not worry about the button had you opted for the M&P non lazer model.. ;)

If you are not satisfied with the pistol, be sure to inform C/S of all issues you have with the pistol and I'm sure S&W will try to do their best to make sure you're happy...

I hope things work out for you...

Non laser model may not have been released yet...either way S&W should have pulled off the laser implementation better.

Just got my spacer from Galloway Precision and have installed it.

It will be a couple weeks before I can get to the range, but the hammer does seem to hit harder (louder click). Surprising, as small as spacer is.

Photo above to show the size. It sits atop the spring.

My complaint is not about the long hard trigger, I expect that from a SD gun. My complaint is that it doesn't go Bang when you squeeze that long hard trigger! You should be rewarded with a bang after that much effort!

Mine goes bang every time I pull the trigger....

I can't understand why all the bother over the trigger. Mine is good and stiff with a smooth pull. In another thread I likened it to a double action revolver pull. It takes a deliberate action to pull it all the way through to release. THAT'S WHAT I WANT IN A POCKET CARRY PISTOL!! At the range I can squeeze off all 7 shors as quickly as I can in a revolver and at 3 yards get them all on the target. Aside from a stove pipe on the 7th shot of the first magazine I ever fired-the pistol has been flawless. What the hell more does one want out of a pocket pistol.????
Full disclosure-I tried the little Ruger and could not discern any difference with the triggers. To tell the truth, if the Ruger came with a safety, I'd a bought it because to my feel, it is a tad bit more streamlined than the Smith and a CH lighter.

Some have different standards for what is acceptable. Ive never heard a good trigger described as "stiff" nor do I consider "on target" accuracy at 3 yards to be a measure of anything.

The problem I had is that it had to be pulled so far back that I end up twisting the gun to get the trigger fully pulled.
The replacement trigger does not lighten the pull, just shortens it. It is much more comfortable, in my opinion.
