I guess sadly its my turn to put in a "gone" pet thread.

Yesterday lost my biggest Maine Coon cat. I have posted about him and my other Coons before!

Timmy was about 26 pounds, 14 years old and most certainly lived up to the breeds nickname "gentle giants" As big as he was he was very light on his feet and was definitely a lap cat, albeit a very large one.

All our cats are a 100% indoor cats. Timmy went kind of fast. He slowed down noticeably sleeping more and eating less. It appeared to us he had a upper respiratory infection and we took him to the Vets figuring some antibiotics and he would be back to normal. Well during the examination the Vet found a large lump, took x-rays and did a blood test.

Lump was in a bad spot but he thought it might be able to be removed. Well it was not to be, Timmy went in for a exploratory surgery with the understanding if it could be taking care of to do that. Tumor was in a real bad spot and hitting a bunch of vital parts.

It had grown real fast as Timmy had a good physical in the beginning of July. (fast growing tumors are not a good thing most times) Vet called us with the news from the OR. We (Vet& us) elected to not let him wake up!

We are also going to lose my smallest coon soon.(15YO) He has a serious kidney disease (no cure) and is losing weight. As of now he is comfortable and getting around/functioning OK. He is not in pain, but based on what the Vets says he probably will be gone by November if he continues the path he is on.

If they made the trip here are a couple pictures of Tim!

I'm so sorry to hear about Timmy. I know how hard it is to go from the constant presence of a much loved companion to the absence of that presence. Literally in a heartbeat.

Timmy was so handsome! Even though I know you will miss him, I also know you are grateful for the years of fun and love he gave you.

Again, sincerest condolences on your loss.

I am very sorry to hear this. It sucks. It's maybe not nice to say but IMHO you can love a loving animal more that a human sometimes. I'm sure that Timmy gave and received many many special moments with you and your family.

Prayers up for you, your family, and your little buddy.

I know all to well your story....lost my girl Stockings last Wednesday, and the story is very similar. Had a tumor on her tummy and pre-op testing revealed she had developed Diabetes. Took about two months to get that regulated, and we were getting surgery re-scheduled. Wednesday she woke up with respiratory distress and her chest was full of fluid. Tests revealed rapidly developing cancer, so we let her go.

Timmy

I feel your pain, although not possible, as he was yours. You're a wonderful person to have cared for one of Gods creatures, that cannnot be replaced. He's waiting for you and will know you the minute he sees you. Life is a shxxstorm followed by joy. May God bless, I'm going thru the same thing with my old cat Blackie. No greater good than an animal lover

Having just recently put down a beloved pet, and having had to do so a number of times in the past, I know exactly what you're going through, and it's NOT easy. Pets become part of our lives, and then when they pass, they are part of our hearts forever. Sincere condolences.

I wish to thank all that responded. From being on this great forum a while its easy to see that many on here have 4 legged companions and understand.

As we are both retired we spend a lot of time with our cats, and Coons if anything seem to really enjoy being around their human friends!

As also stated in my OP, we will be losing Harley (the smallest) soon. Wife and I have talked it over and to keep the last Coon with a companion, if necessary we will get another cat. Will find a friendly one that is older, in a shelter and needs a forever home!

Animal People

Had raccoon family living in my garage for years. Live trapped and relocated. Several years, their cubs pulled my shoelaces, mom layed by my feet. I never touched them. Not rodents to me. They are very intelligent and STRONG, hard to pull the screen door shut. My cats were outside with them, they respected them, ran like Hades when they hissed and batted them. Unbelievable, they could've torn em up. I'd like to think it was me and they knew they were mine. Animal ESP? You betcha, we're all connected electrically. Atoms, God, whatever.. if you think about it, our cars are a bunch of atoms, solid, yet constantly moving. Wow
