My experience with Magpul PTS sights from Ebay

While I agree you get what you pay for. I purchased the $20 dollar ones and mine have zero problems and holds zero. It does what it needs to and that's be down 99% of the time. If you want to be sure you have the best of the best then buy them.. I really don't care. I also see it unnecessary to spend $1000 on a scope or red dot. Maybe that's just me. I don't have the money to spend on something like that. I also got the PTS AFG2 am I an idiot cause I spent half the price on something because its not the best plastic? I think not.. It's all up to the op, if your asking this question the question of what's better the answer is out there. This is simply a range "fun" gun. It's not handling severe weather or conditions or even heavy recoil. My set works fine and if they don't last then oh well I'm out $20. Ill just take them off and use just my red dot... Would I recommend putting them on a 223 or bigger caliber gun? Absolutely not. I'd purchase the real ones.

OP, ever thought of actually trying to detect what's keeping the sights from releasing from the RH side? It looks like it's just about to release from the video image. Could be some little difference in the latching mechanism length. After all it is PLASTIC. A dremel or some sandpaper may save you $80.

Nope, not asking that at all. Just posting my experience with the PTS sights.;)

Yep, sure did. It is hanging on the hinge area. If I "dremel" it, then all of the force of the spring will have to be supported by the left side. Fix one problem to gain another that could be worse. And if it is worse, I am left with a set that can't be returned. These cost me $29.00. I choose to purchase them from a Veteran.:)

The seller offered me a full refund of $29.00 and said I could keep the sights! I told him just to give me $20 back and to keep the other $9.00 for the Wounded Warrior Project that he sponsors. :) Now I can mess with them to see if I can get them to function properly.

All is good!!;)

And that speaks to the point. Why pay for something at all that doesn't work as advertised or expected. I don't shoot with the large aperture on any of my ARs so this would have been a a deal breaker and a replacement issue for me and many others.

I have yet to shoot an .22LR at a range that needs the small aperture. As they are back up sights for the red dot and stay down and out of the way most of the time I don't have an issue with the large aperture.

I shot expert with the buck horn battle sights on an R4...

I use my sights as backups for the red dot for 3 gun matches. The matches are all shot under 100m, with about 90% of the shots being less than 30m, on man sized targets. All I need it the large aperture if the dot goes down during a string. Any other time and I can take the time to put on some real irons or fix the dot.

I don't need the small aperture and actually prefer the default being the large one. Having it default to the small dot in rather silly. If I need the small dot I have the time to mess around with it and select it. If I DON'T have that time, I don't need the small dot.

Whatever you need. I prefer the spare $ on a better red dot than on sights I'll almost never use.

Well for me I like to gamble, so I put my $30 on the slot & hit the lever. My PTS came out good, no problem what so ever. So I luck out. I got mines in Amazon.

I guess none of you PTS guys have any real .223 ARs.

I like to swap around rifle gear constantly to keep my range experience interesting. If I buy a piece of gear for my 15-22....that means it will eventually end up on all of my rifles someday.

If you're too cheap to spend an extra $40 for a piece of genuine equipment, that is just pathetic.

AR15 equipment rarely loses it's value. If you spend $80 on magpul sights, 1 year from now they are still going to be worth $80. Good luck on any of your fake chinese plastic retaining it's resale value.

+100... Buy Once Cry Once!!

Sounds like someone is too cheap to buy enough optics/sites for all of his weapons. My AR's carry their own optics/sites, good quality optics at that. Some are set up for long range, some short range, different twist rates, etc... I have enough choices that I don't need to "keep things interesting" by swapping parts.

I have a couple sets of real MBUS and one of the knockoffs. The knockoffs work just fine for what they are intended, which is backup. A guy who comes in blustering about others peoples choices in equipment, now that's just pathetic...

Since the official Magpul PTS website doesn't list any PTS sights for sale (they link to the parent website full price units), please let us know where "real" Magpul PTS sights can be purchased....

Perhaps in the past they were sold, I don't think that is the case anymore.

Still waiting for a link where "genuine" MagPul PTS sights can be purchased....

You guys need to relax a little. Putting knock off sights on a 22 range rifle isn't a crime or an attack on our personal POV. If someone sees fit to spend their money on them, its not that big deal.

It has nothing to do with being cheap. It has more to do with prioritizing the way the resources you have available are utilized.

Like it has been stated, a 22 plinking rifle doesn't require $250.00+ dollar battle sights. If you choose to run them, that's cool, but it doesn't mean that it's the only option.

I too own a "real" AR and I too agree that I wouldn't run the knock offs on it. That said I see thothing wrong with running them on the 22.

Nope...wrong.

I have an ACOG TA31F and an Aimpoint Pro.

I love the Trijicon, don't really care for the aimpoint.

Someday I will spring for an EOTech, but until then, I prefer irons on short targets and playing around with my Slide Fire.

Not to mention I have every version Magpuls different foregrips, that I rotate on my different rifles. I've seen the PTS versions, and personally I wouldn't put them on a real firearm.

If you like using cheap plastic ****, it's your money. But there are many good reasons to purchase genuine gear.

Impressive

Look very closely at the right side of the sight and see why its not releasing. You might be able to file or trim a little plastic and make them work.
I have the same set from the bay and I really like them.

Yep. First impression...I spent $90 for this cheap looking plastic!?!. Now I don't even remember what I paid. Well, okay, I do but it doesn't hurt as much.

I don't care if people put cheap sights on their rifles. I have som cheap NCStar metal sights on my .223 AR15 and they work fine.

My issue is peope saying they are buying MagPul PTS sights when it appears neither Magpul nor their Asian PTS subsidary seem to be selling them.

That consitutes fraud. If those same companies want to sell them as Wong Foo sights or whatever, that's fine with me. People who read these threads need to be aware that the sights really have no direct relation to MagPul and that inference needs to be made known.

I see your point and agree.

Today

Well I guess forgot to turn off the red dot sight. After driving down 25min. to the outside range, I pull out the rifle & no power to the dot. The knob was on 4, so it was on for a month. Took the red dot sight & x3 sight off flip up the knock off. They did the job.
So they can still be used.
