My favorite 45

I have come full circle, appreciating my 1911's once again. My first Colt S80 bought new back in 1985, added a few mods, still my favorite 45 hands down.

I don't see why you're ducking for cover. It's a gorgeous pistol and if you love it then you don't need any cover. I have an electrician who says to his customers, "If you like it then I love it". Should be the same way with guns. If you like it then I'm delighted, never mind my personal feelings about 1911s.

I wish you had said "nothing like a .45". THAT I can wrap my head around easily!

Good eye! They are indeed Patrick's work. He had to make a base pair of stocks extra wide/thick (for my big mitts). He sent the unfinished pair to get a tracing of the Ed Brown Bobtail, and I sent them back to be finished out. They are a great pair example of his custom work.

The knife was a gift from my dad. He picked it up while on vacation in Italy.

I've also had a rekindling of interest in the 1911 lately. I've got two of them. I took them shooting a couple of months ago for the first time in over 20 years. Really enjoyable. While I've preferred DA guns for carry/self defense for several years now, I've been carrying one of them, a Series 80 Govt Model, around the house for several weeks. Surprisingly easy to carry for an all-steel gun, even in a crappy Uncle Mike's holster.

Of the two, though, my favorite is my 70 Series Gold Cup, worked over by King's Gun Works when they were still a reputable shop. Inherited from my dad, it has too much sentimental value for me to carry it, but it will be seeing some range time as ammo allows.

I've always been a sucker for two-tone 1911s.

Nope. I think they went to a parts-only business in the early 2000s, then went out of business altogether a few years later.

I prefer revolvers over semi-automatics, but when I do carry a semi-automatic, I prefer the 1911.

Here are two of my favorite 45's, but since we're talking about non-S&W guns, ignore the top one in the photo. The bottom one is a Colt 1917. The condition is much nicer than the picture suggests. It's really cool to shoot a piece of history.

I own a pretty fair share of HG's - both Revolvers and Semi's. My fav for the Range (target work) has always been my circa 1974 Colt Series 70 Gold Cup NM. I shoot it better than and centerfire I own!

I don't own a 1911 (I know, I know), so my favorite 45 is my principal home defense gun, my FN FNX-45 Tactical. I chose it after a shoot-off with a 1.0 M&P 45 FS, and an HK 45. My FNX contains 16, count 'em, rounds of 45 goodness, is well-built, and has been very accurate and reliable over its 7,700 rounds. It works extremely well with the Venom Vortex red dot sight and it's fun to shoot. What's not to like?
