I posted this in the reloading forum soon after it happened, but I thought I would repost it here for those who don't frequent the reloading forum and might be interested in handgun hunting. It was quite a thrill.
"I'm 51.5yr old and I made my 1st deer kill 01/01/16. S&W 460 Mag XVR with 300gr Hornady XTP MAG over 39gr IMR 4227. 142yd. My daughter was with me and she filmed the shot. Great day: 1st deer, with handgun, my handloads, my daughter with me. I'm a very lucky man. Thanks to ruggyh and everyone else helping me with reload info."

Congrats............that doe will make some tasty venison.:)

Bet that S&W 460 is a handful. I think I will stay with my rifles in 30.06 and .243 for deer. :D

Very cool! It is a thrill when a plan comes together like it is supposed to. 142 yards with a handgun is pretty darn good shooting. Did you have to do any tracking or did it take her straight down? That is going to make some good vittles too! Congratulations!

Re: OP. Good for you! Have actively hunted deer along with other small and medium game since 1983. Well remember the days spent in the woods/fields with my daughters. Hope you and your daughter will have many more happy times together. Sincerely. bruce.

Excellent, congratulations on a great hunt.

That will be some fine eating venison for sure!

Congratulations.
I'll always remember my first deer with my M29.
Venison is great meat.

Deer hunting will lead to needing more guns, more deer hunting, more guns, etc. nice shot.

Love it! Congrats!! You made it look easy, but 142 yards with a pistol from that position is no easy feat. It looks like a supported position...until you get in it and try to keep that scope steady.

I didn't get to hunt much this year, but I brought my .460 with me the few times I went out. Sadly I'll have to wait to next year for another try at a pistol kill.
