My first M1 Garand

I was recently given an M1 Carbine (30 cal) manufactured by Underwood....(the typewriter company?) it's in very nice condition barrel is marked what looks like 12-43...
There are other marking on the receiver and on the stock.
Where can I find info on this?

Well, having this one for about a week now has given me the fever for another one. Reading the CMP forums it appears they are starting to run thin on Garand, especially nice ones. I'll be contacting the guy I got this one from and will either get a Winchester or more than likely a mid 50's H&R. Before I left he showed me one that was all matching in beautiful condition. That ones been calling me ever since. Can't stop thinking about it!

'War Baby!' by Larry Ruth is the encyclopedia on the Carbine.
