My First Model 19

It's a Dash 4, and by all appearances is in about the condition it was in when it left the factory. Not a speck of looseness about anything. Feels like a brand new Swiss bank vault. Butter smooth double action, timing perfect, etc.. Not a speck of any sort of wear. Base price on it was $770.00, but shipping and transfer fee added some to that. I feel like I did pretty well.

Thanks. Especially when you consider that the new Model 19s go for more than I paid for this one (which seems to be factory new), and are likely inferior in quality, not to mention having key holes in their frames. Yep, I'm happy.

I see only one problem with that revolver...the condition is so good you're going to be reluctant to carry and shoot it. Beautiful gun. As for price, if you want the gun, whatever you're willing to pay is a good deal. Congratulations.

I also love the 13/65 in three inch bull barrel/round butt frame, and have one of each. Recently I picked up a nice 66, too. Same configuration as this one. Made the same year, in fact, i.e., 1980.

Yep. It's undeniable that the supply of pre-83 S&W revolvers in nice condition isn't getting any larger, and the more folks get a sense of that reality, the higher their prices are destined to go. Makes it hard to make the decision to make one like this a regular carry gun.

I remember just five or six years ago you could pick one of these pre-83s up in excellent shape for about $500.00 at just about any gun store. Nice pre-83 Model 10s for about a hundred less.

I the 70's 80's I never would have bought a gun less than 4 inch barrel. The 19 became my favorite gun in 82 but would have not even looked at a snubbie 19. To me snubbies were J frames. I bought my first several months ago and am just totally in love.
