Well for some strange reason I got a hankering for semi-automatic pistol. I'm not really sure why but in essence I ended up trading a well worn Model 64 K38 for an M&P45. I just got done cleaning it and it appears to be in pretty good shape. I will know more once I get it to the range and put a few hundred rounds downrange.

Congratulations on your new acquisition you will grow to love your new weapon, just try not to take to bed with you, you might want to keep it nearby your bed however.

Watch out though once you get one M&P you will want more, I currently only have two a M&P9 full size and a M&P40c but am looking at a 45 full size as my next gun purchase!

hey GH, i got one of those a couple of months ago primarily for nite-stand HD duty wearing an M3X light.

since then it's gobbled up a few hundred rounds of FMJ, Gold Dots and Golden Sabers (all 230 grain) with zero malfunctions. quite accurate also.

i think you're going to like it!

Congratulations on your new gun. It's a beauty. Looks just like mine. I acquired mine 2 weeks ago and am absolutely impressed. I think you will be too. That 568 is really nice also.

I have the full size 45 as well. Great gun. I absolutely love mine. Enjoy.

If you dont like the trigger pull consider:

At this point I don't have any issue with the trigger, it seems like a good military style two stage trigger. There is a lot of take up and then a nice firm second stage, while I would not call it crisp, it is passable for a combat pistol, and I don't foresee any problems once I get used to it. I have my k38 Masterpiece for punching one ragged hole in a target.

I have the same M&P .45 I bought t in November. I like those revolvers too but it's a lot of fun banging out 10 rounds in a few seconds. It's a tack driver too. I have already put over 2,000 rounds through mine without one issue. And in slow steady fire it's very accurate. Enjoy!

M&P 45 AAR

I finally made it to the range today and got a chance to give my M&P a test run. The weather was warm, but very windy, all the shooting was done at 25 feet, today was more of a function test than a target session. The little plastic pistol ran perfectly, cycling every handload I had, I ran few magazines of 230 FMJ, a couple of 230 HP and a bunch of 230 LRN. It only took about one magazine to get used to the trigger, I found it useable, it is what it is, a combat trigger. The gun never missed the paper and was shooting about 3-4 in groups albeit about an inch low. All 5 magazines performed well, the extended 14 round ones give a nice useable extension to the grip.

I'm actually very pleased my M&P I may just consider another in .40 S&W with a 9mm barrel, and this coming from a guy who swore he would never own a plastic pistol.

Glad your enjoying your M&P45, I knew you would. I've been out a couple of times with mine and If I really get down and focus on my sight picture, trigger control and breathing, I've found I have no problem putting 10 rounds in 2x2 square at 10 yards.

Hate to say I told you so but once you buy one M&P you will buy more, heck I even have the hats and tee shirts. I am a proud M&P owner and in my mind there is no finer weapon in the world so why have any thing else!

Congrats on the M&P45. I got one last week, and I love mine! Such a sweet shooter! Traded a Glock 19 for it. Couldn't get use to the grip angle on the glock. Here are some pics of my 45...

5 shot group at 15 yards with semi wad cutter ammo.

Very sharp. If I don't quit hanging around here I am going to be posting pictures of my new M&P. I have been looking for another 40 caliber and might just give S&W a try. I have many Ruger semis and one XD.

Enjoy it but there is a danger! It becomes catchy and often spans into a 9 & 40 caliber before you know it. You have picked a good one to start with.

Contrats on the 'new' 45. I have to confess, just this morning I printed the spec sheet for sku 109706 and pegged it to the wall. That usually means one will be appearing in my safe in the no too distant future. :)

Your description of the trigger was very well stated. I've fired enough of the modern semi auto pistols, both plastic striker fired and conventional DA/SA to recognize the M&P trigger in general is not that bad, although as with anything I'm sure there are a few exceptions. The fact that the M&Ps have been gaining popularity in IDPA and the like says good things about the design. The Melonite and whatever else constitutes finish on these pistols does seem to be pretty tough. Mine is in a leather holster most of the time and hasn't shown much noticable wear after three years of more or less regular carry. My blued revolvers and Glocks have shown more wear in less time.
