hey guys new to the fourm here, just picked up my first smith and wesson pistol this week, a SD40. traded a PF9 for it. i think i got the good end of the deal lol.

i've had a couple glocks, rugers, keltecs, taurus... but always wanted a s&w and happy i got one now finally after a few years.

i pretty much always mod/customize my firearms to make them my own. first thing i did was paint the letters with some of my wife's white nail polish. then the next day i stippled the grip with a tree bark texture. so far i love it. i'm hoping to get to the range this weekend.

Congrats and nice job! How did you do that form of stippling? I really like the look! And welcome from Indiana :-)

I to like that stippling & also like your confidence in the pistol all that work & you have not even shot it :)
& welcome

Thanks everyone. I used a wedge tip on my soldering iron and just did random vertical touches in groups. Took a while but I really like the results. I'll try to post some small range report video tomorrow

Nice. I've been on the lookout for an orphaned SD9 slide on the usual places on the 'Net myself. I'd like to be able to swap the stock SD9VE slide with the black melonite. I saw an SD9 slide by itself for sale before I bought my SD9VE so I know it's not a pipe dream, lol.

Welcome from Illinois!
Nice work on the stippling and I love the random pattern. The SD40ve
is a Winner! Great value and reliable piece. (I guess you can tell I am a fan of the SD).

Welcome to S&W ownership and to the best forum on the net

Of all the guns I own my favorites are the S&W's hands down. Now get a S&W wheel gun and get spoiled.

I recently bought a Ruger Blackhawk for modeling holsters with. Of course I had to shoot it. I don't want to trash Ruger here but the gun I got did not even come close to what my S&W's were right out of the box in workmanship. The Blackhawk is a good gun now that I finished doing Ruger's work for them.

The SD is a good start but try one of their revolvers too like a 686 or something.

I mean it get a S&W revolver too will thank me if you do.

I have a S&W SD9 that I bought new while they were still in production. I like it quite well except that I changed out the plastic guide rod for a steel rod. I use 115 gr. Doubletap, Federal 9BPLE, Underwood 115 gr. +P+ and Corbon 115 gr. JHP. It handles hot ammo well & is light weight enough that my wife can handle it.

Looks great. Color filling is on my list. The only modifications done on my glock was a flashlight. I didn't care to do more since the modifications i found to make my awesome glock was basically replace every part with the upgraded part. I didn't do anything to my ruger. It's fine as is, and isn't special in any way. My s&w is a project build into exactly what i like.

Modifying guns seems to say "i like this one and i want to like it more"
