Yesterday I went to the Range with one of my friends and it was his birthday. His wife invited us to a fancy restaurant in Naples and so we joined them. Anyone familiar with the area is aware of the prices too.

We wound up at The Continental Steak House and my wife and I ordered our very first Tomahawk Steak. Our friend's did the same. The Tomahawk's were 48 ounces which was more than enough for two people - we even took some home! This was the first time at this particular restaurant and the dining experience outdoors under a canopy was nice. The star of he evening was of course the steak itself. The salads, sides, apps pours were disappointing - and the menu was extremely limited! No creamed spinach, no sautéed mushrooms, no regular salads and the coffee was cold and bitter.

DON'T ask the price (could have bought a gun for the cost - lol)!! I'd be totally embarrassed to tell and all I will say is that it was stupid, crazy expensive! I would not have cared if the food, dish choices and Bourbon pours were reflective of the pricing, but other than the steak itself, we were a bit disappointed. Well, I did finally get my Tomahawk cooked to perfection, so at least I can say I had one - lol.

We did walk along the beach in the moonlight (plenty of that last night) and all in all it was a pleasant evening.

I also enjoy a good tomahawk! Around here many times they are not on the menu. Normally only the better steak houses offer them, probably because of the cost!-

When I lived on LI my FAV was Peter Luger's Steak House. Went to both the Williamsburg and Great Neck locations many many times throughout the years. They only served Porterhouse cuts but they were oh so great! Not only did Luger's have great steaks, everything else they did was top notch too, like the potatoes, onions & tomatoes, bacon, shrimp and ice cream hot fudge Sunday's! Luger's had the BEST Onion Rolls I have ever had in my life!!

Man I miss that place! BUT NOT enough to go back to NY!

What is a Tomahawk Steak? I've never even heard of one! And, living in the classy town of Pittsburgh, you'd think they would be a popular item. Heck, I never even heard of a pierogi until I worked in Aliquippa, Beaver County, PA. I'm going to find out where to buy one around here and cook it myself. Maybe one of those pigeon-looking birds I saw in the other post somewhere this morning would go fine with it. I suppose a Mourning Dove would be about the same thing.

48 ounces sounds more like a roast than a steak!

I'm glad you enjoyed it, but I can't cough up that kind of money for a meal.

I guess my taste buds aren't sophisticated enough. I do enjoy a good steak...

but, if I'm honest, I get just as much enjoyment out of a thick, grilled, ground chuck patty.:D

For some meals your doggy bag take home will give you a full other meal. It makes the price more tolerable!-

Don't feel bad - I never heard of a Tomahawk Steak before two years ago - and I am a "steak guy"! We do visit Pittsburgh often as we have our son and DIL there but I have not found the right steak house there yet. I'm sure they exist, but to date - no luck.

I'm normally a bone in Ribeye guy at 20-22 ounces. Typically, with Ceaser Salad, Borcalli, and if I'm celebrating a Baked Potatoe. My beverage of choice is unsweet tea. Dessert is usually later in the evening and consists of Cheesecake, carrot cake, or Ice cream. This is every 4 to 6 weeks.

The only steak better than a huge Ribeye or Tomahawk is a Cap Steak. If you never had a Cap I feel kind of sorry for you. You know that outer strip on the Ribeye that you always eat first? Thats the Cap. What you do is when you have the whole rib in front of you, you separate that Cap from the rest of the Rib. Take the Cap and roll it up on itself nice and tight, tie it off every 1-1/2-2", slice across the grain an grill over high heat. I'm a big fan of the Eye of the Chuck or "Butcher's Steak" as well, flavor king in a small package. There is a good reason you rarely see them in the meat market, there are only two on the whole cow and usually the butcher takes them home. Its a smaller steak located right where the Chuck goes into the Rib.

A Tomahawk is nothing more than a really big Ribeye. And there ain’t nothing wrong with a really big Ribeye. Naples has an endless variety of restaurants offer some of the finest fare imaginable. I’m a fan of the restaurant scene on Marco Island. Fantastic steaks and seafood with a laidback atmosphere. Marco Prime is a great steakhouse.

Chief , you ever make it up this way , you'll have to go too Flemings . They have a Tomahawk to die for , and their sides are great also . We go there for b-days and special occasions . For the two of us , and we don't drink , it's nothing for a $250-300 bill . But it's worth it , and you have a h*** of a doggie bag . They might have one down in your area .
