Visiting out of town with the in laws. BIL has some guns but not really a "gun guy." He's not really down with the ammo drill and was complaining about ammo unobtanium, especially .22LR.

So we go into Walmart Saturday & had some time to kill. Naturally I steered him to sporting goods. "Probably no ammo but ya never know, right?" We found out that not only were they getting in $133,000 worth of ammo Sunday but also to be there around 0600.

So we stroll up at 0600-ish and there's this absolutely adorable little gal with her infant waiting. First in line. She had a list from dear hubby and snagged him a limit of ammo. Is that gal a keeper or what? :D

BIL & SIL limited out on .22LR, 10mm Kurz and .223. I picked up a brick of .22LR so he walked out with 2,050 round of .22LR in addition to his centerfire stuff.

He went from "zero" to "Apprentice Hoarder" in one swoop! :D

I gues there is no point to the rest of looking for ammo.

Gotta put in the time to look and be willing to get up early. I'm afraid it's going to be awhile before you can just walk into Walmart at 1500 and pick up a couple bricks of .22LR.

They were STOCKED. I haven't seen that much ammo in a Walmart in a looooong time. By 0700 there were about 12 in line & I would say everybody got what they wanted.

Limit was 3 boxes total, just 1 of .22LR so I think the flippers have decided it's not worth their time.

At least ammo is available online again. Backordered, but that's better than 6 months ago.

The vendor places limits on the amount of ammunition someone can purchase.

If anyone is interested enough to ask, they will tell a shopper when to come in to the store and buy it.

Short of putting your name on it and refusing to sell it to anyone else until you decide to saunter on in, what would you have them do???

Firstly if the sales people know when it is coming in they should not be allowed to alert people and the secondly it should go out on a strictly 1st come 1st served basis and then the three box rule should be strictly enforced, whether it be center or rimfire.

Last time I was in Wally World I saw a "mini brick" (325 count) of 22lrs, a 100 box of .38s WWB and a couple of 50 packs of .17HRM's. I thought; "gee, I'm not usually this lucky"!:)

I was finally able to flag down someone working in Sporting Goods and he said that the "night guy took the keys home with him" and he was unable to get in the case.

Saw what?!?!?!? :confused::confused::confused::eek::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad:

So, a potentially fruitful trip turned into a "look, but don't touch" tease. It was like going to a strip club (so I'm told);)

At least the guy with the front door keys showed up!

Shooter, prepare thyself for the next round of craziness. Then, you can read stuff like this and grin, knowing you were home and in bed instead of scrambling around to find a few rounds of ammo. It will happen again.

3 box limit

My 3 box (old bulk cast bullet boxes) limit contains about 4,200 rounds of 45 acp 200 grain lead semi-wadcutters. I got some casting done last week, 3 large coffee cans of bullets. Then I went and dug out my first case of Big 0 large pistol primers.

Life is good for a hoarder/caster. Now there is plenty of ammo for friends and relatives during Christmas vacation. :D

You should have put it on layaway, no reason they couldn't perform that simple task.

Answered a phone call at the LGS where I work (one call of hundreds on any given day). Young man on other end had believed he had it figured out. He wanted the store to 'special order' him one (1) brick of 500 .22 LR.
Sometimes it's so hard not to laugh. Patiently explained that .22 ammo is now mostly allocated and that it would do no good to 'special order' any. It just doesn't work. I could still tell he didn't get it.

We're getting it in alright, but just in small quantities at a time.
Last week had several 1400 rd. buckets of Remington Golden, and they were gone in the same time they would have been if they were free.

Firstly if the sales people know when it is coming in they should not be allowed to alert people ...

Of course - everything should be handled in that manner!

The Hobbit Movie is so popular there are lines around the block.

Q: "What time does the movie start?"

A: "None of your business. Keep coming back and maybe you'll get lucky."

So they only have one key in the whole store? What happens if they lose that one key?

The WMs here will not tell you the truth of when or what comes in, and if you get any halfway believable story--its always BS and the story changes constantly. The only reason I can think of that is why I stop by their ammo counter, is because im in the store to get other stuff since I am there.

Have to partly disagree. 1st come means--selling to flippers.

You need to tell that employee that his store managers also carry keys for said area, and when some are lost or misplaced? they go to Automotive and have spares made. I saw that happen a few weeks ago.

Apples and oranges.

Kozmic, I guess you're just a nicer guy than me! I would have gone in search of the store manager & have him roust the clerk that took the key home with him, so he could get himself down to the store, tout suite! No excuse for that!

this isn't ammo, but the federal primer fairy showed up a couple of weeks ago with extra pistol primers beyond what I was told I would get. total was 13 cases. also got some Missouri cast bullets that came in 7 flat rate boxes. good for next year at least.
