Yesterday I was lucky enough to purchase my friends last N frame. We met recently as I purchased two other revolvers from him(a '33 outdoorsman and a pre model 24 from 1955) both in very good condition but I purchased those through our local shop as he had them on consignment. After asking if I could contact him so I could get some history on the guns I had purchased and he excepted, we have become very good friends. Greg is probably a little bit older than my dad and I'm 54 but we have struck up quite a friendship and have found out we have a lot in common including both being firefighters. I guess my point for this ramble is that there is a lot more to this hobby than just the guns. The third and last gun he had sold to me privately. It's a 1917 Brazilian contact and not nearly in the condition as the other two but I had to have it as I felt all three should remain together. After giving her a good cleaning I like it just as much as the others.

Great post, PaulDoc. The gun you show speaks to me. It has a history. You are so right that there's more to all this than the guns. It's the history and the people we meet. My shooting friends are more like family. I meet new shooters frequently and they often become part of the family.

The Gun is the crux, but you are right the history and friendships are the tell.
I have several bring backs, that have back stories.
This Beretta is just one case in point.
I became friends with the nephew, who's uncle brought it back from Germany.
Several Smith's including my Dad's Hand Ejector he had while serving as Coast Guard axillary in 1942. I 've mentioned it in another post.
Then there is my 1917, etc.

It's way more than the gun(s) for me

PaulDoc, while that Brazilian shows some blue loss, it’s honest wear and I don’t see any of the real abuse so many examples have suffered. The markings are still pretty crisp and overall the condition is pretty nice. I’d say your friend provided you with a nice one.

That said, the friendship that you’ve developed with its previous owner is a treasure in and of itself. I’m now two decades older than you and wish I had paid much more attention to those “old guys” back then who had so much knowledge to pass on. Enjoy that friendship while you can. (…and the Brazilian as well! ;) )

Great story, great revolver. I like firearms that when handled make you smile. 😁
Some of my guns have stories that make them special to me.
Shoot them and enjoy them.
