MY GARDEN IS PROTECTED !

the armed guard is on the look out for stray cats.
i'd tend them if drifter let me, but if they attack my household, they die.
little drifter is ferocious but probably doesn't smell like a girl anymore.
cuddles is gonna be huge, but is still a sissy.
the problem is i probably can't hear a fight with the a/c running.
i wanted to keep cud indoors at night, but he's insistant about working nights.

My shop is located by a storage yard, boats, motor homes, travel trailers, etc., and a tortoise shell female feral cat lives and hunts there. She had three kittens earlier this year and I fed and watered them until they were nearly grown but a nesting pair of bald eagles also live close by and hunt in a field next door. I have seen the eagles catch animals on a few occasions and I think they got the cats. She now has at least two very small kittens I have seen. The eagles haven't been hunting around here lately and their babies may be on the hunt also.

I hope the eagles don't get the little ones. They can lift over 5 lbs. So I hope they're well hidden. Maybe the eagles found some rodents instead

i'd never worry about drifter with eagles.
she understands cover.
she even understands overhead cover.
i once posted how she relaxes under bushes, never in the open.
cud would get eaten quick.
i'm not sure he understands that there are things that want to eat him.
drifter knows this in her bones. it took a while to convince her that i wouldn;t eat her.

you know, it appears that cats aren't affectionate because we think of dogs n how they show affection.
my guys show affection by sleeping on me n each other.
they sometimes nap alone but usually want physical contact with the rest of the family.
they clearly think of us 3 s a unit.
i never understood that cats like touching.
drifter has always enjoyed my company, but usually at a distance.
it's quite interesting to see they act toward me much the same as to each other.
drifter didn't like the group but she likes cud fine.

I agree.. Cud is the one I worry about with eagles and other flying predators... Drifter is very wise in the ways of the outside world. It's so wonderful that your family of 3 is a solid unit and that everyone is well and happy with each other.[emoji175][emoji175][emoji175]

IS BIGGER BETTER?
Drifter is the size of most cat's i've known.
that turns out to be 6 1/2 lbs/
no telling how much bigger drifter would be if
she had been well fed as a kit.
drifter's pet, cuddles, entered a growth spurt weeks ago. the operation didn't change that
i bet he'll be as big as his dad stripes, maybe 10 lbs.
i wonder if extra size will do him any good?
drifter takes big prey.
anything a cat can eat, she kills.
bunnies are almost as big as she is.
cud will need twice as much food, but unless he moves to possums i don't see him finding larger prey than drifter takes.

Lucky just had his 10 month birthday the first of July. He is 9 pounds 8 ounces. And he is all legs and bones!!! He is in some sort of growth spurt right now. I guess that he is like a teenage boy at this point. When he starts to fill in, I think he will weigh a good bit more.

Bella is a couple of years old...can't remember right now, maybe a little more. But she has gotten plump! She weighed 11 pounds 8 ounces the last time she was weighed, and I'll bet she is a little more than that now. Probably 12 pounds.

But...they are exclusively indoor house cats.

Best Regards, Les

My last kitty that I had, Zima, lived to be about 22 years old and in her prime she weighed 15-17 lbs. We finally had to cut down on what she ate because kitties weighing more than 15 lbs are very prove to diabetes. Luckily she didn't get that. She was a healthy girl. Most of my kitties usually weighed 8-10 lbs and looked healthy and well nourished.

looks like drifter is small for a house cat, but she sure looks kike all the barn cats i've known.
there isn't an ounce of fat on my guys.
drifter isn;t out more than 4 hours/day, but she runs n climbs all over.
since mice are her fav food, she works at hunting.
this is a good place for cats to live.
coyotes are a danger but there's no traffic so they can go out.
drifter understands coyotes but not cars.
i just looked up cat weights. 8 lbs seems normal, so my drifter is petite.
i don't mind. she kills what i want killed.
i love her for the death she deals out to vermin.

cuddles is training himself.
he likes to go out at 9pm n i won;t get up to let him in til 7am.
i can keep him healthy with 2 meals/day, but he always wants a snack after a few hours.
when he comes in, he isn't starving. some days, he;s not hungry when he comes in.
he has learned to find his own snacks.
