A year ago this month, I picked up a model 10-10. Great mechanical condition, but not very pretty. I had in mind what I wanted it to be and I've finally gotten it all together. Had the front sight milled off and replaced with a fiber-optic pinned sight. Smoothed the action and replaced the tired springs. Refinished in black Tacti-Kote from Metaloy Industries. New grips from Ahrends. Off to TK-Customs for a moonclip conversion, and had a local leather guy make me a basketweave holster to match my favorite dress gun belt. I've spent more on it that it'll ever be worth, but I don't care about that. It's just the way I pictured it. It handles and shoots wonderfully too. Pics are below.

Thanks for looking.

Great project! I have kicked around doing something similar but keep spending money on other stuff.

Who converted the sight to pinned and did the work on that. Looks great and can be changed out I would assume.

She turned out amazing!

Who did the front sight conversion? I would love a 13/65 but I want a modern sight on it.

Nice job, she looks real nice. What kind of wood are the Ahrends made from? Sonora

Nice, that is classy. A nice working gun. Good looking leather as well.

Send me a message if you'd like. I got scolded once for posting a holster-maker here...

I like your mods. In thoughts of doing something similar I did a websearch on "Tacti-Kote". I've never seen such a useless website. An alternative was a Facebook page. More uselessness in addition to a persistant third screen banner begging me to join FB which I have no desire to do. My only conclusion is that marketers of the product have no desire to sell their product. Ceracoat has an excellent website. Think what you will!

Congrats! You obviously seem to know about carry pieces. Pride of ownership is off the scale, so don't even think about $.

BTW, may I ask about the loads in the cylinder. Headstamp looks like S&W +P. Older loads, yes? Something like I use. ;)

Good work and good shooting.

JLM,

From my perspective, you've done nothing to that Model 10 that detracts from its utility at all. First of all, the Model 10 and those like it are my idea of a workhorse revolver. The things you have had done all enhance the ability of that one to do the job it was and has always been intended to perform. And, you've made it look very, very nice in the bargain without it being gaudy in any way. It's a gun you can absolutely depend on, and it's a gun that you can know is attractive and eye catching to anyone I want to hang out with. Best of all, it's what you want ... it's what you saw in your mind before you started putting it together. Now you can't look at it or hold it without having a huge grin and a warm feeling inside! Plus you can go use it, shoot it, carry it, and depend on it and all it will do is give it more character. What a treasure for you!!

And the cost? What cost? What is a big smile and a warm fuzzy feeling inside worth? What is the feeling of confidence you have knowing this is as dependable a firearm as you can have worth? Shoot, it'd be an honor to get shot with that dandy!!! I admire your vision and the very practical nature of everthing you have had done to this Model 10 to make it specially your own. It is something for you to be very proud of, and I say you don't have to make any apology for the money it cost. I'd say all the rest of us are probably a bit jealous and wish we had thought of that!! Congratulations!! Good Job, Sir!!!

That sounds like my first year Highway Patrolman project gun. It had already been buffed and refinished once and then that finish was damaged before I got it. Mr Culina is making a set of grips for me and I plan a trip to Fords for some rehab and nickel refinish. I just decided that since it was in excellent mechanical condition the old workhorse should be properly taken care of, even if I never see a cent back out of it.

Nice job on yours. I like it.

If The Performance Center would produce one like that I would be all over it. Very nice.
