My Idea of a Kit Gun

Steely85,
I don't think that I'v ever read replies as bitter, and nasty as the ones you have given to the forum members that showed interest, and ask questions about your post, showing a gun that you obviously wanted to share with the forum members, but evidently were not wanting to share other particulars with them. I just caught myself before I made the horrible mistake of asking the holster's maker! I am certainly glad that I didn't. A good way to keep from prompting all those terrible personal questions, that bother you so much, could be avoided by not posting at all! I don't know what would cause you to be so bitter towards your fellow forum members. I hope that You find relief. You have all of my sympathy.
Chubbo

Nothing bitter about it, I only responded to some 'guy' in Texas that was apparently having Santa Anna flashbacks about me not posting who made the holster.

Questions don't bother me in the least. Perhaps you see 'I hate it when.....' as a question, but I certainly don't.

I was happy to answer questions in this thread and others, unfortunately reading comprehension is a lost art.

Regards,

Scott

PS: Thanks for the sympathy, the last time I ever received sympathy from anyone was from my gay cousin Thomas. I appreciate the memories.

The holster looks like a Chick Gaylord design from the 1950's. If anyone has Larry Koller's "New Book of Guns" from 1955 there is a photo of a holster made like that, but it appears to be made of ostrich.

I have a copy of the book, but we moved back in May and still have things in storage.

I too, would like a holster like the OP's.

So who made the holster and about how much did you pay for it? Love the gun. What did you pay for it? I just picked up a .38 Regulation Police in .38 S&W here on the forum recently. Serial number 33875. Paid like $500 for it. I will post a photo later as soon as I can go out in the yard and find a few bricks.

The grass looks like Zoysia or maybe Kentucky bluegrass.

Anybody know the words to Kumbaya? :D

Kumbaya caused the biggest brawl I was ever personally involved in.
Tension started when some around the campfire were cold and wanted to put on another log. Others insisted that would raise our carbon footprint to unacceptable levels.
Some wanted to keep singing a cappella while others wanted the guitar picker to strum chords.

It was awful.

When the dust settled, eight people had been slapped, three beers had been spilled, one down vest had been torn, a styrofoam cooler had been broken, the tofu casserole got dumped, and the guitar picker broke a string.

The cooler was the worst part.
We naturally wanted to get it to a recycling center cause it lasts 400 years in the landfill, but the center was 19 miles away, and we were concerned with the vehicle emissions that would be created driving it there. Fortunately, a bicyclist volunteered to take it and all was in balance in the universe again. :D

I have one with the serial number 865XX. Any idea as to age/ship date? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

they don't give two puffs about emissions in Georgia, handejector, as long as it ain't a yankee makin em. and them peeps only got slapped cause they spilt beer.

SCS&W III just gives a broad range for the Regulation Police and Models 32 and 33 of 1949 to 1969 being 54475 to 122678, so guesstimation would say the early 1950's to early 1960's for yours if not model-marked.

And Kumbaya to you, sir.

C Broad Arrow,

As buff posted it can be hard to tell. But I have several recorded in my data base the shipping dates for which have been documented by S&W historical letter.

#832XX is the earliest New I frame .38 RP model stamped I show which is from 1958.

Therefore your # 865XX is from the gun butt, it's likely Model 33 stamped in the yoke with cyl open, and from '58 or '59. However, as we all know, S&Ws were not produced or shipped in consecutive serial # order.

So if not model stamped, it has to be from late '56, '57 or even early '58.

Either way it should have only three side plate screws which confirms that time period.

I hope this is helpful,
