My Latest 3rdGen!

I found this clean Model 5904 on Gunjoker, where for reasons beyond me, it languished without a single bid. I have a few 3rdGens, but they are all stainless. It seems to me that the blued guns don't seem to hold up as well as the stainless. When I saw this one I knew I had to take a chance. got it with box & docs, & even a lock, at a very reasonable price. Now if I could find a 4505, I just might call it done!

I prefer the dark finish, even though it doesn't "wear" as well.

I don't own a blued one and I seldom see the blued ones in my LGSs and pawn shops. If they have 3rd Gens they are almost always stainless. Looks like yours is pristine. Congratulations.

No, I didn't sell it to TTSH, but I did sell it to a guy I know who is a 3rd Gen collector in MA. Which just means he's more competition, but he's still a nice guy.

Those xx05 guns are pretty rare because S&W didn't make a lot of them. A blued carbon steel framed gun just didn't have much allure when you could have an all stainless gun which would wear better.

I've also sold my CS9 and 3904. Not because they're blue, but because they had become safe queens and I wanted them to go to homes where they'd be used as intended.

Of course every time I say I'm going to thin out the 3rd Gen herd, I end up with a new one.
